exercise with a fissure

Postby kmax1940 » 20 Jun 2010, 22:13

Hello, I have a fissure. I had lis about 2.5 months ago...
Still not healed... I have had a good week with no blood though...
I really want to start doing some exercises.
sit ups, push ups etc.
Anyone know if these will hurt the fissure.
Or do u know any exercises that u can do with a fissure?
Trying to work on the ol' stomach. :)

I never exercised much to begin with, but I'd imagine sit ups and push ups may involve some butt clenching that might not be entirely comfortable. But then again maybe it wouldn't be too bad. Why not give a couple a go and see? If it hurts then don't do anymore since the last thing you want to do is cause a setback. The only definite no-no IMO is lifting weights.

I had fissure sex. Does that count?
In all seriousness I'd weigh the benefits of working out against the possibility that it'll make your fissure worse. Doesn't seem worth it to me. I'd rather have a bean bag stomach for the rest of my life than a fissure.
But I'm a couch potato so maybe someone who's in better shape will chime in.

You can try fast walking every day for the beginning. Loosing fat will take away your belly and localized exercise than can give you a "6pack" ; ). If you just isolate to exercise your belly - you will not have wanted results.
So, all in all, start slow and start with light aerobic exercise which will benefit your whole body : )) and healing rate.
I was able to go to a treadmill 8 weeks post op . Would put some Vaseline on the anus though, to prevent chafing. After 12 weeks I was able to do all kind of exercise , but I was healed at that point  So, just take it easy.
I would strongly recommend walking though since it will help with circulation and healing in general (now I only wish I can take my own advice LMAO and start exercising again Image )

I also am at the 2.5 month mark with the fissure. And I'm sure thats what brought it on in the first place (because i was holding my bowls while running and then doing wieghtlifting after words, Also I was straining to have a b.m. before my run my work outs). Anywase I think if I would have chilled out for 2 months not ran at all kept my b.m.s very smooth and just walked for 30 mins a day I would not need the surgury I have to get next week. I would only suggest 30 min walks and maybe light yoga or seated yoga. You can think of this time not as a time of not being able to do the things you want to, but rather a time to heal and cleanse the system. Strengthing your over all health. I would look at nutrition and light exercise as your method of keeping in shape right now.
