Home-made essential oil supposity: Fissure relief at last

Postby LH1958 » 26 Jan 2014, 09:47

I have suffered from a chronic fissue. Clearly I have experienced severe pain and bleeding, especially after BMs, but my predominant symptom was itching-all day, all night (often waking me). I used the recommened sitz baths, wet wipes after BMs, every cream I could think of, nitro cream with some success, then needed a hip replacement and narcotics for several months pre and post op....so you can imagine that progress went backwards. I do not suffer from constipation, rather I had frequest BMs (10-12 per day). I have Celiac Disease so have been strictly gluten free for about 5 years.

Things that seem to be working:
1. Grain free, dairy free diet. I eat lots of protein and veggies. This is very similar to the "Paleo diet". I see a nutritionist who recommended this. This reduced the BM frequency and made my BMs more solid. The itching improved quite dramatically. I also lost 23# after only 3 months. I am also taking a number of digestive supplements recommended by the nutritiont (but the diet made the biggest difference).
2. Probiotics taken once daily. I use Florajen3. This improved gastric motility.
3. Just this past week I stumbled upon a really important comfort measure that seems to be healing the fissure. I made my own essential oil suppositories. Not only did these lubricate my BMs, but it improved/removed my itching and appears to be finally healing the fissue (in only about 5 days of use so far). I searched on the internet and found a site that showed how to make these and made my own receipe.

My receipe: Essential Oil Suppositiories

Get a really small ice cube tray-I used one from a recently purchased minfridge. If not, use a regular size and you can cut each suppository into 1/2 or 1/4 size.
1. Melt some coconut oil and pour into the ice cube tray. Even with the very small tray I used, I only filled each compartment about 1/2 with coconut oil.
2. I used Young Living Diagize essential oil. 1-2 drops in each "cube." You can also use Diagize topically for GI disturbances. It is a great blend to have on hand! (I have no relationship with this company-I am just a happy consumer of their products)
3. I added one capsule of vitamin E oil and one capsule of Flaxseed oil to each cube. I just broke the capsules and squeezed them in.
4. Stir around to mix. I used the tip of a table knief.
5. Refrigerate. They harden really fast.
6. I cut one half of each "cube" with a butter knief and inserted it as a suppository.
7. So far I have done this for about 5 nights. The impact has been so huge that I wanted to share my success. It lubricates my BMs and has really removed the itching! Warning, the first one I inserted, increased the itching, but stick with it.....after that it has really resulted in improvement. You could do these more than once a day also. The nice thing is the suppositories are not messy following insertion!

Let me know if you try this and it works for you. Best wishes for healing and comfort! LH

Hi LH, and Welcome to the forum :wel: Where do you live? In USA or in Europe? I am asking you because i want to try This, not for a fissure( I had LIS 12 days ago and doing very good). But for an anal irritation that I have been dealing with since I had my fissure. Do you think it will work for that too? I have all the ingredients but for the diagize oil. I finally found it here in Spain in a special store but it cost 50 euros for a tiny bottle. I am a little reluctant to spend that money without knowing if is going to work for sure. Do you think that's the correct price? Or are they ripping me off? Could you tell me more or less how much it suppose to cost where you live? Thanks for your post.

Hi Bettyblue. I live in the US. Di-gize is about 15 ml - 43.09 USD. I wonder if you might want to try the suppositories without the Di-gize? Coconut oil, vitamin E oil and/or flax seed oil? Since your are pretty recently postop, you probably need to be very careful with suppositories! I am a nurse-midwife so I have a special appreciation of these sensitive areas!

The Ingredients list for this blend include the following. Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus), ginger (Zingiber officinale), peppermint (Mentha piperita), juniper (Juniperus osteosperma and J. scopulorum), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), anise (Pimpinella anisum), and patchouli (Pogostemon cablin).

As an update, I have been using these homemade suppositories for about one week now. A few days ago I began using a small suppository in the am and one before bed. The itching is 90% better (which to me is nearly a miracle). However, this am I did have bleeding with a BM which is the first time in a week. I remain hopeful and more comfortable for sure!

Thank you very much LH for you answer. I think I am going to follow your advise and combine all the oils but the d-gize. I think it is a little pricey just to try to see what happen. The irritation really is bothering me, I thought with the LIS done, the irritation was going to disappear but is not. Maybe it is too early to know and I have to be more patient. But I am dealing with this for more than a year. Well, the irritation is just a little problem, and I should not be ungrateful because I don't have any pain and I am doing very good. Being a nurse and midwife, if you happen to come across to a natural remedy for anal irritation, please let me know. Meanwhile just hang in there. Healing a fissure it really takes a lot of time, but is possible. Many people in this forum have been able to do it. I really hope that you will be able to heal. Many blessings. Take care and good luck.

Think, do you know that one of the side effects of dialtizem is itching? If you have rashes also it means you developed an allergic reaction to the oinment. Call your doctor to confirm. But several people here in this forum have had reactions to the oinment like several itching and rashes that stopped when they stopped the dialtizem. There are other options to use like nitro an nifedipine. So please talk to your doctor about changed it. Take care.

Hi-I sure appreciate this forum. You are a group of really kind people trying to help each other with what is a very difficult and painful private matter!

I mentioned to betty blue that perhaps she could try making suppositories with the coconut oil, vitamin E and Flaxseed oil. They are inexpensive, easy to use, not very messy if you don't put a big piece inside and have certainly not increased rash and itching. I keep the ice cub tray in the fridge and have been cutting off a piece and using them twice daily.

My form of Celiac causes skin changes (I get blisters and rash on my hands called Dermatitis Herpetiformis), I also get arthritis type joint pain if I get accidentally exposed to gluten when I eat out. I am very strict with my diet because these rashes and the joint inflammation are so painful and take days to resolve. However, about a year ago, I began reacting to more foods and getting GI symptoms (abdominal pain, vomiting). At the same time this terrible itching began. I have seen my primary nurse-practitioner, a gastroenterologist, and most recently a surgeon. To be honest the person that has helped me the most was the nutritionists (PhD in nutrition) and making the dietary changes I mentioned above (grain free/dairy free). I take a handful of dietary supplements that he recommended three times daily. The nutritionist recommended a stool culture for parasites (I had traveled to Vietnam within the last 18 months) and other parameters. I was negative for parasites and he said there could be parasites that were not included in the typical test for ova and parasites. He gave me some herbal parasite treatments that I did take religiously. Frankly, I don't think that was my issue. I was diagnosed by this stool test with increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut syndrome LGS) and a pretty significant dairy sensitivity. The treatment is a grain free/dairy diet which is also called "Paleo". As I mentioned above, this helped me significantly. I have read some about LGS and just recently it is becoming more recognized as an entity.

For me, I think this LGS was the real core issue but I still don't understand the rash I have had around the anus. Most times it is like a dermatitis with little bumps that are very itchy. Sometime I seem to have itching right after I eat. I suppose it is like "putting salt in a wound"? What I realized lately is that when I eat certain foods, they seem to irritate the fissure. I mentioned to the nutritionist that I can't understand the pattern and he said, "maybe there is no pattern?" I saw a surgeon last week thinking that maybe I needed hemorrhoid surgery. He said that I still have a fissure that is healing. That is when I understood that the itching was from the unhealed fissure (the hemorrhoids are actually very small and not really irritated). I can tell you that the itching is much better better since the suppositories. I still soak/sitz bath about twice daily. I wish you all health and healing. LH

Tink, BettyBlue is right. Diltiazem gave me a terrible weeping itchy rash. Try and see what happens if you don't use it for 2-3 days. If the itch stops, you need a different cream. Nitroglycerine or nifedipine. But don't continue with the diltiazem if it makes you itch, because it will only get worse.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
