Very inspirational, I have a couple of questions:
1. You mention squatting with your feet on the toilet bowl, can you elaborate on that? Why do you think it helps? Is there a thread on it?
2. No exercise? What about stretching, yoga?

I am glad it worked for you and want to be there myself eventually.

Hi powderblue, and thank you!

Im squatting because thats what humans were build to do. It puts the least pressure on the area, and its easier to empty completely without straining. There are lots of writing in here about squatting. Try to do a search.

Regarding exercise, Im sure stretching and yoga are fine. Just be carefull with the kind of exercise that puts pressure on the area. (Running, biking, heavy lifting, etc). Personally I couldnt get sweat on my forehead without hurting my fissure.

Im sure you will get there too. You found the most important thing in battling fissures. This forum ;-)

Keep them stools soft, and use creams/botox/LIS to relax the muscle, then its just a matter of time.

Good luck!

Hi JHH,

Great to know about your recovery? I just have a question about taking Lactulose. Is it safe to use it for that long? I am taking around a teaspoon of it every night since two months but my doctor advised against it.

Guess its about time for an update...

Im still doing good. Pretty much back to normal with the occational soreness, usually after running. Its really nothing, and goes away within an hour, so I use it as a reminder to keep my guards up :)

I no longer take psylium husk or lactulose. I managed to come off both a month or two ago with no issues. Yes, my BM are sometimes a little pluggy, but its not a problem now the fissure has healed.

There is however a few things I still do to keep fissures away in the future. I still prelube with vaseline, I still squat, never push, and I take 500mg magnesia a day. Besides that, Im watching my diet. Im keeping the fiber up, and hardly eat wheat anymore.

These minor lifestyle changes seems to work fine for me, and as a bonus I havnt had any hemorrhoid trouble since I healed my fissure. In the old days they would come back about every half year to give me a week in hell before they went away, but hopefully not anymore.

Just wanted to let you know, that there really IS light in the end of the tunnel, and as a bonus, we could come through this with healthier lifestyles.

Big hugs to you all!

/J

You are an inspiration. Hugs to you too!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
