Thanks, everyone!! I think the surgery went well. She warned that my BM today would be as painful as when I got my fissure. I'm so very thankful it wasn't!! I've had 2 this morning, and the fear was worse than the actual BM. Man alive, I hope it stays this way and only gets better. I'm feeling good, so far. I plan to loaf around and watch lots of movies in the coming days.

Surgery info: she made the LIS incision on the right side. I'm not sure why because she'd planned on the left. She explained to my husband, but he can't remember. I'll ask about that and how large/long my fissure was at my post op appointment. Anesthesia gave me plenty of antinausea meds, so no problem there. She also gave me an enema which I was not expecting. She said she did it because I was so worried about constipation. I'm so glad I went to her for a second opinion. She really listens and takes all aspects of her patients into consideration. She also gave me a percoset prescription. Hopefully I won't need that strong of a painkiller.

I'm so glad the surgery went well. I hope your recovery is easy and quick!
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Day 2: I had 2 BMs today. Both were uncomfortable, but not really painful. My pain is mostly due to bruising and swelling. I feel a pressure like I need to have a BM most of the day. I think it's because of the swelling. I'm having leakage issues, but I haven't had any accidents. I can even control gas, which I was pretty worried about. Following the same pre-surgery diet. Having sitz or regular bath 4 times a day including after every BM. My follow-up appointment is in 3 weeks. I can't sit up straight without discomfort. I feel better today than I did yesterday - yay!

Day 3: Wow - painful. I ate way too much fiber the day before because I was out of it and not keeping track.

Day 4: Still swollen and had a small amount of leakage during the day. Quite a bit of blood with BM, but not so much spotting throughout the day. I noticed that my entire body was tightening up before and after my BM. I had to make a conscious effort to relax all my muscles. I think it was mostly due to fear of my BM and hurting things. I was pretty much out of commission until after 11am.

Day 5: I feel like I've turned a corner. I woke up without any pain. My swelling seems to be way down, so I felt brave enough to check things out and apply the lidocaine the CRS gave me. I LOVE lidocaine. Zero pain with BM. I'm a little tender now, but nothing like yesterday. It's nice to be able to sit at the kitchen table and type this. I feel like this painfest may actually have an endpoint.

So glad to hear you are improving. How are things for you today?

I have hit a really rough patch myself and am really considering the LIS now. Are BMs any easier for you now? Do you feel any different after having that muscle cut? Like unsupported or anything? How about urgency? Those are my biggest fears.
Dec '13 Fissure from anoscope
3 X internal sphincter botox
'08-'15 Botox for pelvic floor dysfunction
Nov '14 LIS/sentinel tag removal
Feb '15 Deroofing of recurrent infection from LIS
summer '15-healed but still ongoing muscle dysfunction/pain

Thanks for asking, msimon. Yesterday was pretty much pain free all day. I felt almost normal. Today was a little more uncomfortable, but not painful, more itchy. I don't feel unsupported or any sense of urgency. I've tested myself a little, and I haven't had any accidents or felt like I've come close. I don't think I'd say BMs are easier, maybe just less burning afterwards? She cauterized my fissure, so I don't feel the same fissure pain from before. But I can definitely feel that it's there. My incision doesn't hurt, but I'm really babying the whole area, too. I've already decided that if I don't get an abscess or anything else horrific, then I would have a second LIS if this first one doesn't heal my fissure. I hope this helps you. I'm sorry you're going through a tough time now!
