Hi,
I must admit that I have been reading all these insightful post for the past few months but have finally had the courage to join the group as this fissure is not healing. I had a really bad fissure 9 years ago but it healed with home treatment after about 3-4 months.Recently I strained and and that bugger came back with a vengeance (about 2 months) ago and I think I tore in a 2 more places. It has been hell since then. However recently I had Botox for my fissure. The first 2 days were Ok but its been 8 days I am still pretty sore after a bowel movement. There is no pain while voiding but the soreness starts after and last for a good 4 to 5 hrs. My question is has anyone had botox and what was your experience like and how long did it take for the fissure to heal. MY doctor also suggested to apply nitroglycerine creams. However I find that applying it aggravates my fissure even more. Any advise or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Katie. Hopefully it kicks in and I get some relief. I don’t have pain when I go but the pain and soreness starts about 10 to 15 minutes after I go and lasts for a good 6 to 7 hrs. If this fails I think I may go for a Lis surgery but am extremely scared.

Did you have to go to the hospital and were put under anesthesia for your Botox. Mine was done in the specialists office. I know I have 3 skin tags but the specialist was not not too concerned. Thanks for being there for me and listening to me. How are you doing did you get the Lis surgery?

Hi sometimes Botox can take a few weeks to kick in and I have at least 4 external hems and a couple of skin tags but my Botox worked well in that after two weeks the spasms had totally stopped and the burning died down.
Hope it improves soon
Good luck

Thanks @ Mypoorbutt. Good luck to you too
@Katie are you planning on getting the surgery. How long have you had yours. I will be seeing my specialist on the 27th Oct. not sure what he is going to suggest but I may ask him for surgery. I do get spasms a little bit of pain at the fissure site but I am just very sore. Will let you know what he suggests.

Thankfully I only had mine for 2 years. I had the LIS a year ago in November and it worked really well. I get times when I have pain and burning but that's now only after I have a flare of my crohns and end up going to the toilet lots.
LIS really is a tiny procedure on the NHS they rarely if ever cut the whole of the muscle so there is very little chance of any incontinence. I begged my surgeon to cut the full length but he was adamant they can't do that procedure the only time they consider it is if you have had a failed LIS.
