Life has a terible sense of humor

Postby Rallire » 29 Feb 2012, 10:43

Hi guys, 23 year old guy here who’s just looking for some people suffering somewhat similar situation I guess.
I first had problems 3 years ago while doing about 20 hour days at university, The stress ended up with me massively constipated and literally ripping myself a new one. I was diagnosed with haemorrhoids and did have one, but it also seems that I had a fissure as well, Some rectogesic later and all seemed to have been cured.
Unfortunately for the past 3 years any "tricky shit" as it could be called and I can end up with anything from a bright red smear down the toilet to a tiny drop of blood on the toilet paper to just a tinge of pain.
I've been suffering like this on and off for a while, mostly it would flare up once a month or two. The annoying irony is that I'm gay, and now I’m terrified that I'm not going to be able to have any sort of sex life (compounded with my hang-ups i already have I'm becoming more and more depressed).
I'm trying to nip this (naughty naughty) in the bun, I'm currently taking rectogesic 0.4mg 2-3 times a day, downing 3-5 stool softeners a day, drinking an obscene amount of water, eating loads of bran cereal, having only small amounts of wholegrain bread and eating as much fruit as I can. It's been a few days since I saw any blood but it’s impossible to see if it's getting any better at all. Guess my main problem is my stool softeners are also making me need the toilet a lot more than usual, from my normal once per day to about 3-4, while it’s not hard it's really not helping.
I just realy hope I can get past this, I'm just fearfull I'll end up needing surgery...

Hey Rallire,
You really need to see a specialist to help sort this out for good. A colon rectal surgeon is the person to see.
I've read of people who have healed their AFs by healing their hemmies. It seems the two are often related.
There is a lady here who took an oral supplement to get rid of her hemmies, and that allowed her AF to heal.

I'm not saying this applies to you, I don't know. Just thought I'd better mention it.
It takes a while to find a balance in diet and supplements (stool softeners, prune juice, metamucil or what have you).
Some people here prefer miralax as a stool softener and say it is better over a long period to take.
It sounds like you heal but don't give the skin enough time to toughen up again before you veer off to your old bad eating habits.
You really need to change your eating habits for the long term. It doesn't mean giving up all the fun stuff, but always be conscious of eating veg, and fruit and drinking enough water.
I've read that it takes a year or even two for the skin there to get back to it's old toughness and elasticity.
If it does come to surgery, an LIS is not actually that bad. It's still surgery and runs the risks of complications, but the chances are quite small.
So sorry you are here, but welcome! :)

Thankfully I've only ever had haemorrhoids the once and it's notcome back. It does seem to be just not able to fully heal that's causing me problems. I can't remember it being this bad since it started. Usually I would have pain and blood during bm but then would be fine right away. So suffering even a little afterwards as I am now just fills me with dread as I'm always being reminded.
I just wish it would heal faster, a trip to the gum clinic has previously ripped it open before with I found funny at the time given the doctor claiming how good he was and how painless it is, how little do some doctors know Heh.

I get the stool softener making you go more often! I need poop soft but I go too often, if no softener I'm in agony from it, I'm trying to find a happy medium.
Everything about fissures is crap and I can't believe I'm on a forum for something I knew nothing about until a few months ago!
