I feel very private about any health problems I have, and bum issues - can't get more private than that! Parents were the first to know as I was at their house when my issues started, but even to them I waited too long to tell (meaning, if I'd done it earlier, maybe I could have prevented certain issues...), then of course my partner, and one of my best friends, but other good friends just know I had something that needed surgery, but not the details. On one hand, it is a very delicate and embarrassing issue to freely talk about, and you don't want many people to know, but at the end, there is no need to be more ashamed of butt issues than any other health problem...
p.s. NYT article is great :)
