ADD Meds and anal spasms?

Postby pdt935 » 13 Sep 2016, 17:53

Hi all,

From January-July I dealt with a fissure. It really kept me from living my life, and I went from working out every day @170 pounds to 121 pounds and missing work/lying in bed most of the day. I'm 26, and male.

Anorectal specialists told me the fissure was not that bad, and couldn't explain (or believe) the pain I was having. They were hesitant to act, and I was not doing well. Then my GP prescribed me Constella, and for the past month things have been great. BMs are sometimes soft, sometimes a little harder after a night out, but I'm back to living my life.

Two days ago I felt confident enough to start taking Vyvanse, an ADD med that I had thought may have caused previous fissures. Today, I had an okay BM with light spasms, then a watery BM (which I sometimes have anyways) and immediately dealt with the old familiar pain.

What I realized though is that the doctors were right: the fissure was a minor issue, but the spasms were the major source of pain I had felt before. It's either this, or just a bad day as I only slept a few hours and then weightlifted for about an hour.

I'm going to stop taking the Vyvanse (which makes sense as its a stimulant), but has anyone else experienced this? I just got back to work full time and need to be alert. If anyone has any ADD alternatives that don't cause spasms I would appreciate the help!

Thanks all. Hang in there and I can answer any questions.

It is very very common that the pain is way out of proportion to the size of the fissure. This was the same for me. A tiny fissure that could barely be seen and excruciating pain for the best part of the day.

I don't know the side effects to Vyvanse, except what I have seen online (which appear to be quite a few and include constipation). If you have not been taking them and feeling better do you need to take the risk again? Maybe something milder?

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to ask for an ADD med that is less stimulating, as I kind of need it for my job.
