You may develop an external lump associated with your anal fissure/tear - a sentinel pile or skin tag - as well as extra tissue just inside the anal canal (hypertrophied papilla) .
Skin tags/Sentinel Piles are a common occurrence with chronic anal fissures and nearly always go hand in hand. Often they are simply unsightly and don't bother you, while others can be painful at times and grow large.
If you are concerned about Sentinel Piles, speak with your doctor.
