Hi everyone,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this story. I've had an anal skin tag for a good part of 8 years and noticed a fissure develop around 15 months ago. I am a female in my mid twenties and have always been conscious of these things as I felt they impacted my sex life. The skin tag was about the width of my fingertip and probably about 6-8mm long so it was actually quite small. The fissure was caused due to chronic constipation I suffered because of amitriptyline I was prescribed for pain syndrome in my wrists. It flared up from time to time and I really had to make sure my bm was very soft to keep it under check. One day of bad diet would result in days of bleeding and discomfort when sitting down.
Anyway, I finally got them looked at by a specialist. Who suggested I get a botox injection for the fissure as that was my primary issue. When I told him I wanted the anal tag gone too, he said he doesn't recommend it as they can take quite some time to heal and mine isn't too big and he wouldn't bother if he was me but left it up to me to let the surgeon know on the day of the surgery.
I contemplated over this for a few weeks and read this forum and came across a lot of stories of people in pain and agony after getting tags removed which made me more skeptical. But because it has concerned me for a long time, I decided it was time for it to go.
I had my surgery yesterday, 31st Oct 14 under general anesthetic. I am not fond of needles and am quite light weight so the anaesthesist gave me gas to knock me out and then did the IV to put me to sleep. I woke up 45 min later in the recovery room feeling no pain. There was a fat wad of dressing between my bum cheeks and they gave me some local in the surgery area.
No bm yesterday, probably because I stuck to liquid food... soups and juices. Went to pee and got the dressing wet (sucks being a woman) so removed the dressing but wore a pad to catch any bleeding. This morning I had my first bm, which despite taking laxatives wasn't as soft was I would have expected. There was some bleeding but absolutely no pain. It stung a little but nothing as bad as as before.
I've had one sitz bath and shower and going to keep up with the painkillers and anti inflamatories regardless of there being pain or not. Slight discomfort at the moment so just going to take it easy for a couple of days and also stick to mainly liquids.
Just wanted of share my story, which has been less scary than dome of the others. I know everyone's case is different but I'm glad I went ahead with the excision and botox so far!
I havent seen the surgical site yet so not sure how it looks. Will brave that later today or tomorrow. I'll post another entry once done!
