multiple fissures?

Postby Sika » 01 Jan 2012, 18:39

Hi again,
Sorry for another post. I'm just wondering if anyone has first-hand experience or knowledge about multiple fissures. I've not been systematic in recording the things I've found in my research. Anyway, tonight I had a look and I found I have a very large raw gash in the posterior (? i.e. closest to my back) side, a long bloody more standard 'slit'/slice in the top, slightly to the left, a very large skin tag (it's got bigger over the past few months) right at the top (anterior?) with a small fissure below it (going inside) and then a little fingernail sized lump on the right side of the anus, with redness and a possible small fissure just beside it. So, the fissures appear to be multiple and cover pretty much the entire ring. I gather most are single fissures. The very large raw one at the bottom looks frightening.
Anyway, any advice or knowledge? I am going to try get an appointment with the specialist as soon as I can anyway. It just feels more like my anus is diseased, than me having a singular 'cut'. I don't like it.

Hey, I was getting pain in 2 positions and when they examined me under anaesthetic they discovered I have 2 fissures. I now think I have 3 because I retore when I had botox done. It is very possible you have more than one, but the only way to be sure is to see a CRS and get them to examine you properly. I hope you get to see someone soon :)

Yes, I had more than 1 of them...when things were at the worst I counted 4 at 1 time. I started out with only 1 though, but over the years (5 years for me) things progressed and the sphincter got tighter and tighter. At that point I was tearing left and right.
The main fissure for me that started the whole mess was around 12:00, but eventually I developed one at 6:00 along with some superficial ones in between. The good thing is that surgery has stopped all the tearing for me, although I've been slow to heal and have had several retears since. It's been almost two months now since my last retear. My surgery was done in late March of last year.
Really it makes you wonder how much is known about fissures...so many of the websites I looked at said that if you had more than one of them it meant something dire was wrong. But on this board, it seems to be not uncommon. Especially if you've been struggling for awhile with fissures or if you've used steroid cream, the whole area just gets weakened and irritated.
Hope you can find a doctor to help you out!
