Can Straining Alone Cause Retear?

Postby dk579 » 12 Mar 2012, 16:46

I seemed to have a nice little three-week streak (no pun intended) of no fissure activity. Last week, I went through a couple of rough constipation days. On one particular day, I was straining pretty hard...but no stool came out. Sure enough, a quick wipe showed some blood on my typical fissure spot.
I guess when I thought of fissures from constipation, I typically thought they came after large or rough stools. But can tough straining alone cause a retear?

I think so - straining puts a lot of pressure on that area.

Unfortunately, yes. Anal fissures can be caused by trauma to the anus and anal canal. The cause of the trauma can be straining. Sometime it seems like just about anything can cause a fissure!

And so difficult not to strain, at least for me. Does not matter what I do. So frustrating and painful.
Still, getting close to doing something about this.

hmmm thats upsetting to hear. I would like to continue working out (curls, pushups etc) but that in some sense strains the buttocks area.
