toilet seat

Postby sb2 » 28 May 2014, 20:55

I needed a bit of a boost last night, so I decided to read some posts from people who have been able to heal their AF. I found some interesting posts about a toilet seat engineered to provide support for the area between the tailbone and anus. There is a YouTube video (search Hai's Perianal Support) that is very informative and inspiring. The theory is by supporting that area, you provide reinforcement to the "6 o'clock" posterior fissure site which enables smoother movements and promotes healing. There was also discussion about simulating the functionality of the toilet seat through "finger support" of that same area. I tried it today , and while it did seem to help with a fairly pain free bm, the spasming afterwards was intense. Not sure what to make of it, but looking to know if anyone has heard the good and bad about this technique.

I use the finger support and have found it helps the BM to come out with no adverse effects.

I use the support technique, too. I just push down on my butt cheeks around the area to give it a little extra skin for stretching during the bm. It didn't cure my fissure but I think it may have helped a bit.

I relax my rear end in a Sitz Bath (best one I found is from Rite Aid) and find it is easier to have a BM after.

I used the finger support method with bulky stools. I put my finger low down between my butt cheeks, just above the anus, and pressed towards my spine. It really seemed to help, by preventing stretching of the anus. Also helped with complete evacuation, I think.

Once I stopped using supplemental fibre, I didn't need to do that any more. I get enough fibre in my diet, and think it was a mistake to take extra.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Scientist, are you healed or healing, and if so do you think this technique contributed. Thanks.

I am healed. I think the technique saved me some pain, but probably was not a major contributor to healing.

There is a guy on one of the toilet seat threads who attributes his healing to the toilet seat. It's definitely worth a try.

You can read my story at a-one-person-experiment-on-af-drugs-t7231.html

In my most recent post there, I say:
Here are the things that cured me:
Nitroglycerol
Kondremul mineral oil
Hot water bottle day and night
Fissure-friendly foods, especially sweet potatoes, red lentils and oatmeal
Water
Time

Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.

Hi,

The following poster was convinced it healed their fissure & aided their recovery:-

Search for "Guinness" & "Healed with posterior support toilet seat". It's a good read.

I also believe that applying additional pressure to the lower coccyx area/ anal area is very helpful. If I've struggled with an urge to expel, I've found it extremely helpful to stand up straight with my lower back/ top of bottom pushed against a wall and then bend my knees down thus moving into a form of standing/ squatting position! . If I need to go, I can actually feel the stool "shifting" into a vertical position and moving down painlessly ready to evacuate (in a continued squatting position)....It's weird what works for some of us! :)
Chronic Fissure diagnosed December 2011
Healed by Diltiazem around Feb 2013
Anal Fistula followed burst abscess in June 2012
2 internal troublesome piles remain & suspected, but undiagnosed, ongoing Levator Ani type symptoms & flare-ups
