How to find best CRS in UK?

Postby fedupofbumluck » 13 Nov 2016, 17:57

Hello again.

Just wondering how to go about finding a CRS who is really specialised in fistulae.

If you read my previous post you'll know my situation, and I've been thinking it over and would like to get a second opinion as to what my options are. So far I've been referred by my GP and then from one hospital consultant to the next but I'd really like to widen the search but I don't really know how.

Can anyone help? All suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Thanks. In terms of surgical expertise, are fissures and fistulae similar? I don't really know much about fissures, tbh, I guess I'm hoping to find someone who specialises in exactly what I have...

Is he your surgeon? Do you know his first name, so I can see if my insurance will cover him?

Thanks!

Yes he was my surgeon he offered me LIS when two others turned me down. He is really great and is also very honest...he did say I would probably be in a lot of pain due to my other issues and he was right lol.
Steven Brown he works at Claremont, thornbury and northern General Sheffield

Thanks for the info (and sorry for late reply). I'll check him out.

You got turned down for surgery? It's bad enough having these issues without being told they can't even help you :( That's what I'm at too.

Hi, I am really in need of some help and support !!
I've been left with 2 chronic fissures and 2 fistulas (one low recto vaginal and one superficial one within a skin tag) since developing a hematoma after 3rd degree tears post labour.
I'm in absolute daily agony and have been since I gave birth 3 months ago. I have had a very heavy feeling and throbbing feeling in my vagina and my rectum aches and throbs too. If I'm on my feet more than 5 mins I have to lie down. Basically been bed bound since i gave birth which is torture when I have the most beautiful little baby in the world.
I had a seton placed in 2 weeks ago and this seemed to have set off my fissures even worse. After a BM I throb and burn all day long to the point of tears.
Currently using recto gel and stool
Softener but nothing is helping.
NHS waiting list was jan before I cud be seen again. With this being my special time on maternity I couldn't bare the thought of waiting so long so basically going to be out of pocket too as now paying private .
NHS Crs scared me saying that I could have incontinence and a low recto vsginal is one of the worst to treat ?
I have an apppintnment with Mr Brown on thurs and I'm hoping a miracle happens and he can fix me up!
In the mean time I'm
Finding this is affecting me mentally as I'm
So depressed that I can't be the mum I wanted to be to my little girl. Chronic pain is no easy thing to deal with and adding a new born and sleepless nights in the mix is tough!

Hoping someone has some advice for me??
