Estrogen/Oestrogen/Estrace

Postby Scientist2516 » 10 Jul 2015, 08:23

Hi all, as some of you know, I think the final step of healing my fissure after many months, was to use Estrace cream.
Oestrogen promotes healthy skin, and has been successful in speeding up wound healing in elderly people. Well, I'm not elderly, not menopausal, not oestrogen deficient, but I still thought it would be worth a try.

It took a few weeks, but eventually I was completely pain free, and have been so for 5-6 months.

Yesterday I had my regular ob-gyn check up, and I asked the doc some questions. He said that even if you have normal oestrogen levels, topical local application can still have benefits. I asked if it would be OK for men, and he said that small amounts applied locally would be fine. He said that if the dose was too high or not well tolerated, there would be nipple and breast sensitivity, in which case you'd just stop using it without long term harm.

So I say, if you are nearly healed but can't quite get rid of the last lingering pain, or if you are in that frustrating heal-tear-heal cycle, ask for oestrogen cream. I hope this helps some people.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Thanks for posting this Scientist! I am in the same camp. I just couldn't seem to heal but with daily application of an estrogen cream, after 2-3 months, my incision site is said to be healed. When nothing else seems to be working, it's worth a try, in my mind...

Yes, every day for about 2.5 months. I am starting to taper off now (very nervously)...

Did you stop using it cold turkey or gradually? How did you know it was time to?

I told my CRS about it and that I thought it was the thing that finally got me healing. I think he thinks I am crazy....oh well. Just in case he encounters another like me..

It's nice to know I am not the only one. Hopefully others can benefit too. Thanks so much for sharing your story Scientist. I don't think I was really convinced until you brought it up. My Mom had been urging me to try it for a while before but I was skeptical...

I didn't taper off, I just stopped one day when I realized that my bottom didn't feel in the slightest bit sore. I still have the cream though, just in case - but honestly I've never had any reason to restart. Even the prickles I used to get when stressed have stopped. I've had some stressful moments, but either I've learned not to clench my bottom, or it no longer matters if I do.
The funny thing is I feel as though I should have celebrated, but it was all so gradual and drawn out. Anyway, I'd love to hear if anyone else tries it with good effect. We should write a paper on it!

I have been diagnosed with low estrogen so am now wondering if my fissure and low estrogen are related.

Am off to the doc on Monday so will maybe ask for this cream.
