Re: Sugery on Friday and I want to back out!

I totally agree with Dawn! I'm 44, had two kids, had stitches with the second birth, and I wanted to back out of it and tell myself it would get better! But fissures tend to behave themselves then return with a vengeance. The surgery is, like Dawn says, nothing like the horror that you are expecting...

Re: Still tight almost 6 months post-LIS

Maybe your doc thought it better to cut too little rather than too much? A few people do need another LIS to totally fix the tightness. Could you ask to try diltiazem instead of the nitro, it doesn't seem to give the headaches to as many people as the nitro does.Or as I do myself, you could pop a pa...

Re: Using Wet Wipes At Work & Drying (need some tips please)

When I had my fistulotomy, I was given some squares of like flat cotton wool stuff that I had to put on the wound and leave there, and change them every few hours. They were quite absorbent - I'm sure they must be available OTC!

Re: Using Wet Wipes At Work & Drying (need some tips please)

Could you perhaps buy some gauze squares and tuck them there? They would keep the area dry and absorb the moisture.

Re: Nervous wreck

I totally agree with Hope's great advice! The thought of the surgery is far far worse than the surgery itself! You will get a false sense of the pain when you wake up, as Hope says, as it will be numb, so make certain you take the pain pills before the pain kicks in as it can be a bit of a shock! Be...

Re: how common is getting a second opinion?

I would actually run a LONG way away from any doctor who says there is a risk of incontinence. A good surgeon will never had made anyone incontinent because they know just how much of the muscle to cut!

Re: VAL needs advice everyone! PLease ask & help her x

Aw, thank you! That was my thoughts too - if it was for free then there must be a reason for it! We do have a medical assosciation that we can complain to, but I have had 2 operations go wrong before (not colo-rectal) and wanted this CRS as I trust him to operate on me. If I get someone else then I ...

Re: not sure but maybe another fissure

When I got my first fistula, there was a white line in the skin tag - not trying to worry you, as it could be anything, but good that you've got an appointment on moday to get it checked out.
Hope you get good news and it settles down quickly.

Re: Post-LIS Update - Had Surgery 8 Weeks Ago

I agree with Dawn - it doesn't sound quite right that things haven't improved with the LIS. Some doctors don't seem to know what they are talking about, unfortunately! Could you get a second opinion from someone, just to set your mind at rest? I took valium for quite a while - it really helped me - ...
