question about surgery and stiches

Postby jenny2 » 13 Oct 2011, 12:47

i have been searching on this site but cant find the answer. when you are having lis is stiches what they normal do to close up the wound? or is there another way of closure? i had stiches in my mouth for a root canal and it was very painful and i about could not stand the pain, i had to call the dentist because they were infected. the dentist gave me antiobiotic but i had to have the stiches out early. i want to avoid stiches at all costs if i have surgery.. THANKS

Depends on the doctor , some stitch, some cauterize (mine), some do nothing, some make a fresh cut so that the wound will have a better chance of closing without a jagged edge. You need to discuss it with your doc. Regardless of what they do to the fissure, they still have to stitch the LIS site. I am almost 14 days from surgery and I havent had any problems with the stitches that I can tell are the stitches. Occationaly I feel a pinch and I assume it might be them, but its nothing that painful.

i am interested in the cauterize if i get surgery, i dont think another cut would be the way to go. just dont make much sense to me to cut again instead of cauterize.

That's what my doc said, that's why he cauterized. I lived in Cincinnati. Actually Maineville Ohio , near Kings Island. All my family in Norwood.
