Im 27 and i just had a LIS 4 days ago. Support please?

My first bowel movement was yesterday and it was so very painful because I was constipated due to the vicodin. I have stopped taking vicodin and am fully just taking ibuprofen. Yesterday after my first BM ive gone an additional 6 times. I just always feel the urge. Im not sure if it is because of the metamucil and stool softener. I eat only twice a day and my bms were soft and 90% painless but i feel like i always have to go. Im also experiencing alot of cramping and gas.Anyone experience the same thing? Does it get better?

Hi
Both anaesthetic and strong painkillers can mess with our digestion quite a lot, some people are more affected than others. I know that for the first few days after an op I can't eat or it comes straight through me and I'm very gassy and have cramps. It usually stops for me around day 5 but can last longer.
Hope you feel better soon and at least your BMs are painless now

Eat a normal diet and take a stool softener. I use miralax. It's important to eat, you can't have a bm if you don't eat. After any surgery it will take a bit for your system to get back into it's regular routine. It's also normal to feel the urge to go after anal surgery. That will go away in time. It took my system a full month after LIS and even longer after advancement flaps for my system to work things out. Another tip don't sit on the toilet longer than 5 minutes if nothing is happening. Get up and walk around if you have to go the urge will return and you can try again. good luck Suzy
