Sigmoidoscopy? yippie....

Postby Guest » 07 Apr 2008, 18:00

Hello,
Well, I am scheduled for this procedure 4/23/08. I had a nice conversation on the phone with a PA today from my CRS office. My CRS is on vacation for 2 weeks. But she seemed real nice. This is the longest and the most I have bled since I started this thing last year. Even at my worst I never had any bleeding. What gives all of a sudden? I am having little pain and no spasms, just bleeding when I have a BM. Uggggg She told me to switch back to the Activa yogurt and keep using my creams until I come in. My BMs are soft but formed and when it's formed is when I have the problem. When my BMs are small is when it is better for me, but that means I have to eat less and I don't want to do that. I am drinking prune juice 3x a day also. Has anyone had this procedure? What should I expect?
Thanks,
Patty

I really don't think it is a bigdeal at all, I just had one done not that long ago, only partially, but it really was easy. You may feel a little uncomfortable but no pain. I bet you have internal hemorrhoids, have you been told you do??

motherluch,
My CRS told me I had no hemmroids at all even after I went and had two shots of Botox and he could get a better look up there, but you never know I might now. Thanks for the response. I am going to take my happy pills before I go to relax me LOL..
Thanks,
Patty

I had a sig when I had the LIS, and I had a GA, so dont remember anything about it. I googled it before my op and it didn't seem a big deal, but I remember it saying that they blow air into you first which could be uncomfortable afterwards, but if it is (I had a laparoscopy once and they did that, and it WAS a bit uncomfortable after) peppermint tea is a godsend!
Good luck, I'm sure it will be fine!

I had the flexible sigmoidoscope back in '06 when they were trying to figure out what was going on with my butt. I was given versed so I don't remember a thing, but I had no polyps or anything.

I remember having a FS years ago. No drugs for this one - I remember watching the TV screen while he was doing it .
It was when he said " I haven't been up this far before" that I told the doc the proceedure was over. Some docs love this proceedure !
Not painful - just uncomfortable .
I would suggest asking for something to relax you - like Kim had .

I have IBS or so they say...and mine was very uncomfortable-the air really cramped me up, the whole rest of the day I had gas pains...Normal people though have an easier time I imagine..Also my prep didn't work so what I was seeing on the screen was really gross...They prepped me again and it said it was doable but not ideal!

Thanks Noelle,
If I have this scope and I am bleeding now is it going to make it bleed more? God I hope not. I am going to get another shot, I will have them do the booking slip that day of the scope. uggggggggggg Still bleeding as of today. It doesn't matter if it is hard, soft, small, or large it still bleeds. What gives?

I am so sorry Patty : ((, you were almost "there" and now a setback ! What a bummer : (( ! I hope you have no pain !!! By the "scope" - do you mean anoscopy ? I had only one and it did not make me bleed although my fissure was still open. Actually after the scope my sphincter was relaxed COMPLETELY for 2 days and I was pain free - I wanted to come to her office and have that thing done biweekly LOL , but of course, never asked - as if any insurance would cover 2 visits a week to a specialist LOL ! So, if it is anoscopy , I hope you will have same good experience as I did !
Best of luck with scope and Botox Image !!!

Gosh, Patty-sorry you are having to go through another round of all of this. But you are starting from a much better place than you were before so your healing is going to progress much more rapidly I am sure. Image
