I have been doing well for a week till this morning. I didnt change my diet of oatmeal and veggie soup... except I ate a bunch of turkish delight candy. do you think eating lots of sugar dehydrates you enough to the point of hard BMs?

Question about this--so people have found that soy milk does not cause the problems that cow's milk does? And even if you're not lactose intolerant normally, most cow dairy is something you'd want to avoid?

I used goat milk with no problem !!!! I do not tend to constipate so I do not think that even regular milk would do damage to me at that time - but I was so desperate and scared - I stayed away from everything that could make poop harder even theoretically.
Now - everybody is different and regular milk might be constipating for some while for some it is not . On the other side cheese will definitely make poop more formed because of it's consistency and "0" fiber !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had an upset stomach a couple of weeks ago and i drank a tall glass of milk to settle it and the next day my poop still came out pretty smooth.I cut out dairy from my diet just to be sure I keep my stool consistent. If you got an active fissure and you wanna cover all your bases cutting it out of your diet is the way to go.

So has anyone tried soy milk? Any issues with it? Less or more than regular dairy?
What about yogurt? What about Activia?

Soy did not have any effect on my poop - but I do not like it and thus did not use it often.
Yogurt had no effect on my poop either
Again- what works for others might not work for you, Marvin : ((
That is one of the curses of having a fissure - there is no way one can escape "learning it hard way" occasionally since everybody's digestive system is soooo different Image

Marvin,
I use soy milk and this it is easier on the digestive system than cow's milk. I use it everyday in my oatmeal. I think cow's milk is for cows.

This is really interesting...can anyone advise if they are UNable to tolerate cow's milk on cereal / in tea / coffe but ARE able to tolerate regular yoghurt?
I've come to the conclusion milk may be making my stools much harder / constipation. I've recently switched from soya milk to cow's milk and this is the only change I've made to my diet but I've taken a big step back in my recovery since I made this change.
I'm gluten intolerant and so if yoghurt is a no go, my grab and go breakfast options are going to be very limited!
