Docusate and aspirin interaction?

Postby William » 18 Nov 2009, 07:34

I just found out that you're not supposed to take aspirin and docusate at the same time, but I can't determine why. Googling it has been ineffective. Does anyone know why?

Aspirin thins the blood; maybe it has something to do with that.

I could not find the info about "WHY" but it is mentioned on allllllll web-pages , so stay away from Aspirin ; ).
I only know that it also should never be used with mineral oil because than some kind of liver tumors can form Image

I looked myself but Fissy beat me to the punch, still, I wonder why it is so hard to find the explanation for why they don't mix? Image

Hi, Docusate can cause stomach and rectal bleeding, if you couple that with aspirin you could be in serious trouble, that's why the combo isn't advised. I called my pharmacists and he said not to use them together.

There you go, so Cheryl was spot on in her earlier post! I didn't know that about colace! I took it for 5-6 months and thought it was so innocuous!

Thanks, suzy!
Also, I noticed that Preparation H has mineral oil. Is it ok to use that with docusate, since it's topical?

I used Colace and taken aspirins and never had any ill effects for combining it.As for mineral oil I use A+D ointment which has light mineral oil in it and no ill effects either.I'm not using Colace anymore so I don't think I'm going to find out but maybe if you ingest mineral oil along with docusate it can be bad. It's always better to be on the safe side so go with it from there.

Sorry for finding this after so much time passed - YES - only if you use mineral oil internally you should not use Colace too.
Topical forms have nothing to do with that interaction.
