Update on Del

Postby Del » 24 Dec 2009, 04:34

Hi all,
Just wanted to post an update and wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Went back to the Doc to tell her that I was still in pain and that I had missed several days off work as sleeping at night was impossible.
She prescribed some co codamol pain killers and something called amiltryptine (something like that) and has booked me in for an urgent appointment with the specialist.
I don't want to be too hopeful but the pain killers do seem to be helping!
I dont get the feeling of passing a bag of nails any more (although that could be due to the tips I've picked up from here on keeping things soft)
But I am still getting the after pains which can last for several hours. Just wondering if the extra pain killers are breaking the pain, spasm, pain cycle.
I think if the specialist suggests surgery I may go ahead despite my worries about it.

PS
The Doc is well aware of the possible constipation associated with the Co Codamol but suggested I up my dose of lactulose to try and avoid this, and if I get constipation to pop back and see her.

hey del 1st merry xmas to you when it comes ...
my doc put me on amiltryptine, ive since been told it is used to treat depression and also used as a painkiller,
i find that they make me drowsy, (very on an empty gut) so i take 1 25mg 1 hr b4 bed, nd they really help me get a good sleep, i got a hungover feeling from them in the morning after taking them and felt grogy throughout the day, but i guess nw thats stopped.
Co Codamol been there tried them, bunged me right up, so i never touched them again, but i have heard taking something like movicol or exra lactulose may help,
id at a guess say the amiltryptine, is doing the main pain killing, also as it is an anti-depresant ur mood could be more positive which again can make you feel better,
b4 i found this forum i thought positive thinking etc was $$$$ but after the year ive had i have now got totaly different view

Going to see the specialist on 7th January, so although we don't have the NHS over here it does seem we can see the required people relatively quickly!
