I had a local + "twilight " - all of the surgeons I ever visited use that combo. It worked great for me BUT NP - if you are so difficult to "put into coma" - than explain to the surgeon the situation.
Most CRSs prefer "twilight" since it is less toxic to the body and recovery from it is so faster and better and with less risk involved, but when person is "impossible to knock -out" - than general would be better !!!! IMO

Wah ok now I'm kind of scared :) No matter which of the CRS's I end up going to, it'll be one that you've seen before Fiss, so I'm pretty sure they're going to go with local anesthesia plus conscious sedation. I'd guess probably Fentanyl for painkilling and Versed for sedation since that's what I got the two previous times I needed local anesthesia with conscious sedation. It worked alright the first time, but I swear the second time, when I woke up midway through the colonoscopy and could feel everything, is kind of burned into my memory now Image
The risk of not waking back up is definitely higher with general but I think I'm going to push for it and see what they say. I made a copy of my colonoscopy report to bring to my appointment tomorrow. In it the doctor explicitly wrote that I'm extremely sedative tolerant and would suggest something stronger like Propofol or general anesthesia if I ever have to get another colorectal procedure done again :) Hopefully that carries some weight!

If and when I get the procedure done i'm hoping i'll be under general, I had sigmoidoscopy done awake and it was painful to say the least, so much so that they had to cancel half way through, that's why I know I can't do just local, the thought of being cut while partially sedated does concern me a little but if it's the end of my fissure worries then so be it, I will put up with anything to get shut of this thing forever
