LIS: General or local anesthesia?

Postby NeuropathicGuy » 05 Apr 2010, 14:00

Ok got another question for you experienced LIS'ers :)
When you had LIS done, were you under general or local anesthesia? Were you given a choice?
Just curious as I definitely want to be under general anesthesia for the procedure. I already had a colonoscopy where I woke up midway through (apparently I was drug tolerant and this happened even though they gave me 5x more sedatives and painkillers than usual) and am not looking forward to repeating that with actual surgery...
Thanks for any info.

General...it was pretty surreal...i went in the the operating room and was talking to the Dr. One minute and the next minute i was in the recovery room. General is the way to go for sure!!!

Awesome, thanks Brit! Like your new mood. Guess things are still going swimmingly post-op? Were you able to return to work normally?
Someone in this other thread I'm following just took the plunge and loved the results too:

Hey Brit, this may be TMI but I haven't had a BM today yet so at the moment I'm still on the fence. After a BM I may quickly change my mind though hahaha.
Actually truthfully I'm about 99% decided on LIS at this point. I mean I've had this thing since May 2009, and although it seemed to be completely healed for a little bit back around December 2009, the fact that it came right back doesn't give me much hope that it'll just magically heal now. Plus the pain isn't limited to the anal area anymore, it's now radiating up to my hip and lower back which sucks.
I'm seeing a CRS tomorrow for another awesome finger exam, and after that, all that's really left is to pick a CRS for the surgery and get it scheduled. I'm thinking of shooting for around the first week of May since my son is getting surgery tomorrow and will be in the hospital for a few days, plus I have to finish some stuff here at work during April. Who knows, though, if the pain keeps up I may just say screw it and get it done earlier. Reading about others having good results from LIS definitely makes me want to "cross over" as well :)
Hope the soreness goes alright for you today, I've talked to my boss already and will probably take a week or so off after LIS and then work from home for another week or so before coming back to the office.
