healed fissure/now chronic nerve pain

Postby hurtinend » 17 Feb 2019, 19:28

I won't go into my history, suffered for years with fissure and the pain, we all know what that means.

So my fissure is healed according to crs, and colonoscopy confirms no fissure. What's left is a large anal skin tag, which is the end result, essentially skin tissue that covers over the old fissure.

I've been suffering mightily for the last few years with terrible pelvic pain, rectal, bladder.... every test is negative including MRI, ctscan etc.

I recently had a colonoscopy. It was negative. But the nice doctor who did it said that because I had fissure pain for so many years....my body had set a pattern in the nervous system to continue to send pain signals to the brain.

Next step...ganglion nerve block, and high doses of gabapentin

Nerve block set for March 1st

I've been on Tramadol and even morphine for a while but it's not effective anymore. Pain Clinic has me set for the nerve block and is weaning me off the painkillers and transitioning to gabapentin.

I will keep you updated.

I hope this helps some of us.

So glad to hear that your doctors have a new treatment plan for you. Praying that it works and you can live a normal life again. :smilyhug:
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy

I was hoping the colonoscopy would show some reason for the terrible pain, it did not. Glad I finally got that procedure out of the way.

I wonder how many here have considered nerve blocks after the fissure heals but pain persists?

Your situation sounds dreadful. I understand how you wished for there to be a reason for the pain. You sound in more pain than me but I've recently been told I have a healed fissure and no treatment needed but I have days of quite a bit of discomfort and in between an achy soreness. I really don't know what to do next.

I think many people go through this from time to time after doctors say the fissure healed. Maybe it looked healed on the surface but the tissue is still very sensible and easy to get hurt. Hang in there Sue, the best healer is time. Just know the time will come for you too to feel zero pain or disconfort in the area but you must be very very patient.

Hey hurtin....its been a while and i am sorry you are still dealing with so much freakin pain.

As part of my LIS I had a large papilla removed...by the end of my ordeal I am pretty sure that was causing me most of my issues. Have you consulted with a surgeon to have it removed?

Thanks Abu for your positive words. People are so kind on this forum. It's soooo frustrating especially when I can't sleep but I'm being as careful as I was before so I'm hoping that will play off in time.

I lent think my pain is as severe as hurtinend and I truly hope some relief is found soon as it just puts your life on hold and makes everything such hard work. I see you joins the forum a long time ago as well.

Hurtinend

You are probably suffering with what I had for around 18 months or so... pain memory. I was told your nerves still fire off the pain signals because the fissure was so painful for so long.
Typically nerves take around 18 months or so to ‘right themselves ‘ and this is what happened to me.... and I had a good couple of pain free years until this recent episode.

How long has your fissure been declared healed?
If I were you, and this is just my advice, hold off on any more surgery and give it the full 18 months or so of conservative pain management. If things are still the same then consider the block.

Such great support. I'm really hoping that they find something to help or the nerves right themselves for both you and Sue
