fissure...now proctalgia

Postby hurtinend » 31 Mar 2019, 20:01

so after having fissure issues for many years, I have now now been diagnosed with proctalgia. It’s not the typical kind which only last 30 seconds. I have a chronic type in which the rectal sphincter is in constant spasm.

It’s something to consider if you’ve been suffering for a while.

So you finally have a diagnosis then. Did the doctor have any treatment options to suggest? It seems to me that physical therapy could help with this.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy

No the doc is pretty clueless on what to do.

I tried pelvic physio a few years ago. Can’t say it helped much and it costs a fortune which I don’t have since I haven’t worked in 2 years.

I understand, it's definitely very expensive. But there are good and bad PTs out there, and I saw two different ones before finding my current one. She's helped me improve more than both of the others combined.

where does the pain come from? Nothing shows on tests. I am completely disabled from the pain it’s constant

I’ve called friends recently who were so concerned they called the police who knocked on my door.

My life is over. Morphine doesn’t take that burning spasm away.

My heart breaks for you...I know there's help out there for you, just need to find the right practitioner. I found this place that mentions proctalgia specifically in the list of conditions treated: https://www.peacehealth.org/southwest/s ... loor-rehab. Maybe your friends can help to drive you there for treatment. Please don't hesitate to ask them for help.

Hurtinend,

I’m so sorry to hear of your diagnosis.... I can understand your feelings of hopelessness. Patients has suggested a great place to start, I know money must be tight, but give a different pt a thought.

I was diagnosed with something similar.... but eventually I was pain free for around 3 years before this recent tear..... and I did absolutely nothing for that to happen. It seemed that when I stopped messing around with treatment... it just settled.

I could pay for it, I have credit. There are highly qualified and certified pelvic physios in Vancouver. It's a big city with all resources.

I've been messing with so many medications. I don't think my body understands. I agree regarding allowing the body to settle. So many side effects with all these prescriptions.

The only thing that helps is if I take double my morphine dose....not good.

Hurtinend I'm glad you have a diagnosis but to not give you any courses of action for treatment - you must be really low and you have my deepest sympathies.

So difficult to knows whether to start a new pt therapy or as you say just leave alone for a while. It seems this part of our bodies has a long memory.
