Pain 3 months after LIS

Postby EMD23 » 15 Jul 2023, 14:55

After more than a 1 year of suffering with a Cronic Anal Fissure I had LIS surgery performed by a Proctologist. All went well for the 1st 3 months. However on the 4th month I developed diarrhea and with it I noticed some blood in the stool along with a new or same fissure type pain, but much less pain than before the operation. I think the blood has stopped but although the diarrhea has not gone away after 8 weeks neither has the pain. I was prescribed antibiotics for the infection causing the diarrhea and diltlazem 2% (A calcium channel blocker) cream for the Fissure. (I tried Nitro cream before the surgery and would never use that again.) I also take the baths and avoid toilet paper, I have a high fibre diet and exercise regularly. My concern is that everything that I read and heard from my doctor, said that there was less than a 5% chance of reoccurrence. I am shocked that this has happened and very reluctant to have a 2nd LIS due to the greater chance of incontinence. Are my concerns valid and will this new but less severe fissure pain heal and go away with the diltlazem cream or… does anyone have any advice, comment, experiences. All would be appreciated. Muchas Gracias EMD23

I'm sorry that you had a recurrence. I would suggest probiotics to help with the diarrhea. And a low fiber diet to slow things down.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy

Hola and thanks for your reply. I did try the probiotics while I was on the antibiotics and my stomach almost went on strike. Only lasted 3 days with the probiotics. However now that I’ve finished the antibiotics treatment, the diarrhea is going away. Now I’m hoping that with the use of the diltlazem 2% the pain will go completely away. Won’t know exactly what is causing the pain until I see the specialist on August 30th. Hopefully it’s gone by then and all this will be a moot point. I am absolutely convinced that the LIS surgery was the correct way to go as this new pain is not even close to pre surgery and only lasts during the start of a BM and no broken glass effect. Again Thanks, really appreciate your comments. EMD23
