recurrent chronic superficial anal fissure

Postby andrew » 30 May 2011, 06:58

(MY FIRST POST, NEED ADVICE FROM U GUYS)
While other 22 years old are dating, treking, swiming, i am preoccupied all the time about the nightmare of hard stools and the vicious cycle of AF that follows it . I am suffering from anal fissure since last year and it reoccur at every month or alternative month. Since i mentioned it is superficial and hence less pain but i can feel all the time the swelling and tear. I have been using diltizem ointment to treat it. I want to know that using this oninment for such a long time [b][i] has any adverse effect on our body. pl suggest me any measure to lubricate my anus before passing hard stools to avoid AF.
(also sad by the fact that my day gifted me a new Yamaha and i have not been able to ride it becuz of my AF)

hi andrew,
well, i had a vicious anal fissure that bled, drove me nuts, throbbed, always made me squirm when razor blades feeling was almost always present at time of BMing.
but despite all that, i still trained for three marathons!!! which meant lots of jogging/running during the year. continued with my yoga practice and well, made lots of round trips from DC to TX driving on my own.
i know that may not sound comforting but i think if you believe yours is a superficial AF then you too can find a way to continue your living with trekking, swimming, and riding that super cool Yamaha!
**
i am concerned that you have been using diltiazem for such a long time! specifically, how long have you been using it?
what would help you along with the diltiazem is if you could get a prescription for lidocaine 5% gel. you apply this before a BM and thereafter when you have lingering pain. this will help you a lot. some people initially report a burning sensation but then it alleviates. i did use the diltiazem and lidocaine and they both worked beautifully for me....it was immediate and the very next day that i had started it, i was on a 13 hour plane ride to Japan! when i was there for 10 days, it was almost like i never had an anal fissure! and that was that i had my AF for almost 8 years.
**
the diltiazem won't help with pain but the lidocaine 5% gel will.
when was the last time you went to a Colon Rectal specialist for treatment/diagnosis? was there ever a discussion about diet and/or LIS as an alternative?
**
the other lubricate that i would recommend to have is just plain old vaseline. apply some before BM. if you have a huge BM coming on, try to squat over some newspaper and crap on that! by using squatting, it helps with reducing to minimizing your straining to get a BM out.
do you strain when you BM?
what is your diet like?
**
if you believe your AF is chronic, then you will want to seriously consider having an LIS. it took me years to get it done cause im a big chicken, but i tell you, the surgery was the easiest thing out of all those years of suffering. i still can't believe i can now say i am an LISer!!! LOL.
**
you are 22 and hopefully, you will do what you are comfortable with doing. i spent most of my 30s with an AF!!!! when i hit 40.5, i just said, i am not going to live like that in my 40s!!!
find yourself a good CRS.
good luck.

Olive oil is also great for pre BM lube, I've heard it has soothing properties, I used it for a year it certainly didn't hurt but after starting miralax, BM pain was bearable, but the afterburn was still there. But no more bleeding or retears with miralax.

thank you happy ass, ur words r really motivating and i feel confident about myself after knowing that even after fissure (horrible pain ) people don't give u what they like to do.
@Elphie-: your suggestion is good but before implementing i would like to know whether applying coconut oil or olive oil prior to bm for lubrication causes any harmful effect. since i believe that hard stools cause my fissure to reoccur if i use oil it can help me to avoid any future occurrences

I used olive oil every morning for a year, only stopped a few weeks after starting miralax. I had no adverse affects and my CRS said it couldn't hurt.

Hi Andrew. I think that coconut oil is fine to use. I have tried just about everything oily, and settled on Vaseline. I only use it outside, and also put it on over my Nifedipine.
Here is a link where there is mention of coconut oil. http://drbenkim.com/anal-fissure-heal.htm
It is a difficult road we all walk, trying to find something to soothe our rear ends. When you think of it, 'it' should be able to take a small cut and get on with its job. But no, it acts as though it is a delicate piece of crystal, cracking at the slightest knock, so to speak!

also it would be great if u tell me that how AF started in ur case( reason is not to remind u of ur sad days) becuz iam having it since last 2 yr yet it's just pains very mildly(bleeds and cut feeling in the ass),
does the pain increases gradually with coming years or in ur case pain started right along ur first tear( again it's not to offend any one ,the reason why iam asking this question is that my doctor speaks so less and seems least interested to answer my queries)

Hi Andrew,
why don't you want to use a laxative? I didn't want to use one, and used diet and flaxoil, but recently I've been using movicol (miralax, depending where you are from) and honestly it makes a world of difference, and could really help you. You could always try prune juice, that might work, if you dont want to try medicines.
