Re: Some questions on oitments, a lump, and pain after baths

Ok so on Thursday I woke up late for work, so I did not have time to get up an hour and a half early to have a bowel movement and bath. So I called in sick which I think was an extremely wise decision.
I took advantage and seen my doctor again to ask about the ointment, about the lump and that I could barely move because of the pain. She looked at the lump and said "Woah, you have quite the hemorrhoid.". She was actually mad I didn't take the anusol suppositories but I explained to her I couldn't take them because they were simply too big and uncomfortable.
She told me to take baths, keep up with the fibre, bran, whole wheat, bananas, apple sauce (won't eat) and prunes (maybe I'll drink prune juice), and also to apply the ointment twice a day, preferrably after the bm's. She said I might of been able to even go back to work the next day (Friday) if I applied the ointment, and iced the hemmy once for 15 minutes every hour. But YEAH RIGHT Image the next morning was still extrutiating, I think after that morning's bm and bath right after it was the most pain I've felt so far, I couldn't even take the time or energy to stand or sit at my laptop to respond on this forum! I seen that the lump grew almost half as big from when my doctor took a look at it. I applied the ointment and the pain went down significantly, and I piled my pillows up and kept my bum elevated as that was the most pain relieving position, and even took a nap like that.
I iced it all day, and for some reason my dang gone bowel movement didn't show in the evening  . But before I went to bed, when I was applying the ointment, I noticed that the lump went down in size so much that it was back to the size of when I first noticed it.
The next morning (today) the missed bm came back to haunt me. I spent about 5 minutes on the toilet with a "turtle head", the stool was too thick to come out easy, but eventually did with a little pushing, and I was very worried I was worsening the hemmy. I took a bath right after, and then applied ointment, and iced it all day.
Today went on and I was feeling a lot better, and I made sure my evening bm showed. The stool was a lot thinner and softer, but there was more blood than usual (still less than half a teaspoon though). But right now as I'm writing this, I have already applied the ointment, and noticed the hemmy grew back to about the size of an almond, and it's hurting almost enough to not walk.
My question now is, could it be possible - if I had/have - a fissure caused this hemorrhoid, and, could a fissure still be inside me? Once again it doesn't hurt that much when I pass a stool, but afterwards it does.
Also, the way my hemmy is progressing is it possible for it to go away on it's own if I do a lot of excersize? Because obviously running, or lifting will make me rub or squeeze my bum cheecks and possibly cause sweat. I can take the pain, but I can't take the mental pain of thinking that the pain I'm causing it through excersize is making it worse.
thanks everyone. Image

Adam,
when I first got what I thought was a hemmy, which turned out to be a skin tag that developed with my fissure, I walked non-stop. I read on the internet that exercise could help a hem. All the exercise in the world didn't and wouldn't have made that go away:(
I slept in the bath for about two weeks and finally got it small enough that I could walk. It was hell on earth!!
It is common for Dr's to diagnose skin tag as a hem. I had two DR's tell me I had a hem. If you aren't seeing a CRS (colorectal surgeon), this could be a high probability.
A fissure doesn't cause a hem as far as I know but it does cause a skin tag that looks and feels just like a hem. If you aren't seeing a specialist , Adam then you may not be getting the proper diagnosis which could lead to tons of hem. ointments that will not help in the long run and could hurt your fissure.
Either way I know it is painful and I hope things get better soon. The baths are about all I could do that would help. Good Luck. I have been there Image

lol thanks Dawn!
About an hour after my last post my skin tag/hemmy was unbearable so I jumped back in the tub in really hot water, WOW what a relief. I was sitting in the tub and the water was still rising as I noticed little flakes of dead skin (I guess) floating around in the water - about 20 - 30 flakes in all, and they all came as I swept the water against the painful area to wash away whatever might of been bugging it. Also, (close your eyes now if you cringe easily), I found a little hard piece of what almost looked like a wood chip, maybe a seed, but to me was too sharp and strong to be a seed. I also noticed yesterday that on the skin tag/hemmy was a white spot. I just checked it now and there's no more white spot on it, maybe that was it?
Dawn, the lump I have is medium dark red in colour, like the colour of a tongue, or liqourice. Did you ever know the colour of yours?
I think I'm going to have to go back to the doctor's on Monday to ask to send me to a specialist to make sure. The sooner the better. I just hope I'll be able to walk, and that it won't be worse.
Dawn, if it is a skin tag, where do I go from there? Am I just prescribed an ointment that you all are talking about, until it goes away? And if it doesn't go away, and I'm in need of surgery, what is the recovery time after the surgery to be able to at least walk and sit without pain?

Hey Adam,
I agree about the sooner the better with the specialists.
My skin tag was the color you are describing but I'm sure a hem would be the same color.
Many people don't have them removed and are able to get the swelling to go down. I wasn't able to get mine to go away. In fact I would say it gave me as much pain as the fissure.
My CRS gave me the option of having mine removed with my LIS last year. She thought that it would cause more problems in the future if I didn't. I agree and so glad that I had it removed. As far as I know there aren't any prescription ointments that will make them go away...
Unfortunately it may be a wait and see game. It may get smaller and you want need to have it removed Image
It took about 6 weeks for most of the discomfort to go away after having mine removed. It was sore but nothing unbearable. I was able to walk right after surgery but took it pretty easy for a couple of weeks. I also tried not to sit directly on my butt during that time. I chose not too but probably could have sooner that I did. I just kind of leaned towards the opposite side just to not irritate for awhile after my surgery.
One more thing Adam, when you got to the CRS, describe every symptom that your fissure has gave you so that they are clear that it all started when you got the fissure. I saw an idiot CRS the first time I went and was in too much pain to let him examine the inside and was not diagnosed with my fissure for months until I kept calling the office crying and describing the symptoms. I late saw a much better CRS.
Getting the ointments like diltiazem, nitro, etc that are for fissure while your fissure is acute will give you a better shot at healing and usually helps with the discomfort.
Good luck. Keep taking the baths, keep the water warm if you have to let some out and add more. Also make sure they are 20mins or more. It will help relax the sphincter muscle and promote healing and help the tag/hemmie swelling go down.
ps... I had a white spot on mine once too. I think it's just inflamed and anything touching it could have irritated the skin there?!

Oh Adam,
this may help- after a bath pat it dry lightly or let it air. Some use blow dryer on cool setting and put some vaseline or A&D ointment on it. It may help with the friction walking can cause, etc....
