Rectogesic (Rectiv) coming to the US!

Postby NeuropathicGuy » 24 Jun 2011, 01:22

Interesting for those who are State side. Our butts screamed, and they listened! Looks like we're finally getting our own pre-formulated nitro butt ointment:

Aaaannnnd stock in compound pharmacies everywhere drops like a rock :) This is also sure gonna take the fun out of arguing with your doctor over what percent your nitro should be compounded to...

Awesome news! A little progress for fissure sufferers.
I can't believe approx. 700,000 people in the US get fissures a year!

Ng,
You are an unbelievable source of information.
Thank you!
Has nitro helped anyone around here? My doctor never mentioned it.

Not me. Nitro always burned like hell (unlike nifedipine or diltiazem), but strangely enough it never gave me headaches. Did I already say it didn't work? :)

Wonderful news. Thanks NG.
I have not tried my Nitro yet. Still with the Nifedipine.

Any update on this? We're past Q1 2012 and I still had to have mine compounded and pay a hefty price for it.

I was prescribed RECTIV %0.4 yesterday, but to be honest when, I went to the pharmacy they said it costs $449.99 plus tax since i don't have insurance.
So I went to my GP and asked him to prescribe NG ointment %0.4 so will see how that works.

I have been using Rectogesic for 12 years now here in Australia (that was 11 years with sucess and the last year not so much sucess so resorted to surgery last week).
Anyway I cannot believe you only just got it in the US so recently. The Rectogesic they sell here in Australia has 0.2% glyceril trinitrate. It costs between AUD $30 to $40 and with the Australian dollar on a par with the US dollar lately that means it's about US$30-US$40.
While it is not a prescribed medication in Australia it is a pharmacy only medication so you either have to buy it in person (yes I know Australia is a long way away but maybe a good excuse for a holiday?!) or you can buy online and then you just have to follow up with a phone call when you place your order.
The following online pharmacy was AUD30.99:

This second online chemist was slightly cheaper at AUD29.05:

This one also had a phone number for international customers so it looks like they will ship overseas:
+61 02 8347 8188 (International Customers)
