Doctor seems to think i have a fissure

Postby fishandchips » 05 Oct 2011, 13:58

I need some advise, my GP seems to think i have an AF as i have had pain in my back passage especially when sitting , he did check to see if anything else was lurking but found no pumps or lumps, gave me an ointment to use for a week, it seemed to help at first but the pain just keeps coming back. I'm not in agony when doing a BM like most of you seem to be, but i do have pain just after. I'm going to see him again on friday and will ask him to send me for a proper check. Do any of these symptoms seem like an AF? confused!!

What kind of pain is it? Is there bleeding?
If it was me I would ask to be referred to a colo-rectal surgeon to know for definite what's going on.

It' a burning stinging pain, hard to describe really sometimes it feels like pressure, there's no bleeding.

Sounds like a small fissure to me. Go see a CRS.

Oh thanks for you replies :) I had forgot to mention they were treating me for IBS with Fybogel Mebeverine before any pain had really started which seemed to help somewhat, and will of course helped to keep things softer and is maybe why the pain isn't as sharp as it could be.The ointment is called Proctosedyl it is only to be used for 7 days at a time and i was prescribed it again about 3 weeks after the first time, again seemed to start to work and then back to normal.
