Swelling and pain- what do you do for it?

Postby Jojo1 » 29 Oct 2011, 09:36

Hello;
Lemme go ahead and say thngs like ibuprofen, etc. are not an option as im on coumadin. Not having pain so much from the fissure itself as from the intense swelling and inflammation after a bowel mvement. Is this typical for everyone else?
Also what can I do fir it? It's noon and I have just opened the windows to this beautiful day and hd breakfast though my bm was at 4:30 this morning. I've applied ice and had two very long soaks for relief.
Please any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

hi jojo, i'm not good at advice right now as i've just had my fissure for about 7 weeks and havn't put anything on it except valoline and once inawhile hydrocortosone cream. Maybe you could try the hydro cream but not for long period. Its supposed to help with inflammation.

Yeah, would rather not use cuz I dont want to weaken the skin, but the pain is just as detrimental. Feels at the moment like im damned if I do and damned if I don't.

It sounds like you are having major spasms as well. Do you have a skin tag??? Thats what swells on me and then the spasms kick in and the pain lasts for hours. Have you tried to do perineal massage? It really does help. Hope you feel better soon.

hi jojo what i did for the pain and swelling of the fissure was sit with ice bag on my butt for hours and then take several baths throughout the day and night. plus i had tramadol for the pain. maybe you could try a hot water bottle or heating pad, everyone is different so see which one of them helps you the best. what kind of pain meds can you take with the coumadin that dont interact?

Sue, how do I know if I have a skin tag? I do not feel anything when I examine.
Jenny, thanks, been using ice, hot soaks and heating pad since this started in july. Doing good til sept when this pain and swelling started and haven't been able to progress since then. Haven't figured out why. Sitting waiting to see crs for follow up now.

Take Ibuprofen, it's good for reducing inflammation, it works for me, I take the recommended dose per day until the pain eases.

I can't take Ibuprofen since I'm on Coumadin (Warfarin). That may be an option while the coumadin is suspended temporarily for the LIS procedure, though. But, can't take it now.
