Any thoughts on creams after surgery

Hi
I wondered what your thoughts and experiences are about using some from of moisturiser or healing cream on the fissure and LIS incision after surgery? Does all that washing make the skin drier and more likely to crack? I used to use Vaseline or Preparation H ointment before surgery but haven't used anything since for fear of infection.

I used Chamomile ointment both inside and out with no problems at all, it's actually for sore and cracked nipples or nappy rash.
