Substitute for Movicol

Postby Two Years Gone » 23 Feb 2012, 16:54

Movicol/Macrogol has been my best friend the last four months but unfortunately I developed an allergy to it. I have swollen ankles and abdomen when I take it and sometimes a rash but I persevered with it because it really does what it says it will do. When I stopped taking it the swelling went down. I was also running to the toilet too many times a day, almost every time I drank something.
I have tried fybogel and dulcosate and Milk of Magnesia in the past without much success and now need to find a product that will work. I have altered my diet already to increase fibre.
Is there anything that works as well. I would appreciate the advice.

I really like 6oz of prune juice in the evenings, on top of all the fiber and metamucil (like fybogel) I already do.
Some people just eat the prunes instead.
Sorry you have to switch things up. It takes so long to find a balance that works!

Many thanks for the suggestion - I will give it a try. I havent tried prunes as the only memory I have of prunes is with semolina and rice for school dessert (terrible!!). I had to start back on the Movicol this am as had a really bad morning after 4 months healing. I hope I am not back to square one - its nearly 3 years now.
