Oh damn. You lot make me feel ancient. I'm 54 (only just, only just) and I think I've had this problem for about 4 years. So much as I'd love to blame it all on a 10lb 41/2 oz baby 21 years ago I don't think so as I didn't even get hemmies!
I think stress hasn't helped and, over the years, there has been lots of that. I can pinpoint various BMs that have really started episodes. Not always sure what causes the 'tough' ones. Being in my 50s?
I can't put my finger on whether my age makes above average, out of the ordinary or just plain weird.

Probably because more younger than older people use computers the average age may appear to be in younger people. I've had minor problems off and on since an infected episiotomy at 24. Frequent rounds of antibiotics over the years for various infections caused frequent diarrhea, as did taking "Greens". I think antibiotics are largely responsible. At the age of 64, an anal skin tag grew but caused no symptoms. Then the first round of antibiotics in six years triggered an extremely painful fissure at 65. The worst.

Hi Faithson,
I had an infected episiotomy too, 9 years ago. It took the better part of 4 months to heal. But I think this AF is worse, even though it isn't as painful.
Are you seeing a CRS (colorectal surgeon)?
I am wary of antibiotics now too. I hope to never have to take them again! (touch wood and whistle).

I'm 25 turning 26 this year.
I have never had any serious health problems in my entire life! Never had trouble with my BM's ever (don't know how I ever got the fissure in the first place!). Never even tore giving birth naturally--- so what's up with my ass?!
I say a Hail Mary when I poo.

I'm 28, 27 when my problems started. I've never had a baby and no real health problems until that point (when had various gynae issues too) :)

I just turned 40 & spent all of 39 dealing with this thing. No major health issues otherwise tho I was definitely "burning the candle at both ends" when this thing flared up.

I'm 31 and my fissure started 4.5 months ago.
I had my first fissure when I was 23 and it healed by using some indian ayurvedic medicine.
