We are the proud owners of awesome illnesses aren't we

Postby harrisonsfords » 06 Sep 2012, 00:49

Morning, hi, Danielle here.
Four year sufferer of constant butt-pain, and I'm completely and utterly sick of it.
I've always had bowel problems since I was a really young kid, but this intense horror started during the tail-end of my ninth grade of high school, and so far I've been to four doctors now who've told me that there's absolutely nothing they can do for me, just drink lots of water and deal with it. Which is all well and good as advice, but see, it doesn't exactly help all that much.
No matter how much water I drink, without the help of laxatives, I find it literally impossible to pass a stool. I'm not kidding. And I don't mean that in the "it hurts too much to do it", which is also true, but hey. I mean my bowels SHUT DOWN. I can't do anything unless I induce the BM myself with an enema or a suppository.
I wasn't told anything about a diet that could help me, nothing about medications, nothing about ANYTHING.
I've got blood, and I've got aches and cramps and nausea and oh my god you never ever want to see me on my period, because the pain is always worse then. Water retention or something. It's brought down my marks significantly in school, because I'm up half the nights sick or hurting, or I'm sick and hurting in class, and paying attention just isn't something I can do anymore. Usually the pain is enough to make me throw up, but never enough to actually make me pass out. So that's a plus. Maybe.
And now, because of my lack of education about my medical issue, I've been reduced to completely relying on things like Clearlax/Restoralax on a daily basis. If I don't, I sometimes go two weeks without a BM. And god does that ever make me ridiculously nervous, both how long it takes and the fact that I'm dependent on the laxatives at this point.
It's frustrating, feeling embarrassed like this. I'm desperate, and I'm tired, and I have no idea what the hell I'm doing, and I need help. I'm tired of this, and I want it to go away so I'm not in constant pain anymore kthnx. Image

I hope that by now you have found some answers by reading others posts. There are tons of information out there. I won't go into details again here.
The one thing I wanted to mention, is that you have seen 4 doctors already, but you need to see 5,6 or7. Until you get some help. You are probably doing yourself more harm than good self treating with laxatives and enema's.
You'll see the letters CRS used often here. This stands for Colon Rectal Surgeon (not saying surgery is the answer). This is the kind of doctor you need to see. It may take some looking around if you live in a small town. Don't give up. Other doctors, even GI specialists cannot give you as much info as a CRS. Someone needs to diagnose the problem you have before you can treat it.
Best of luck on your search.

Hi Danielle,
to echo what 2aussie said above, see a CRS. I had a doctor tell me, well, it just may have to bleed every day. Get used to it... yikes...
the best info i got on my AF was here and through the CRS.
Hope you have a GREAT day today..

Hi Danielle, I'm so sorry you have this stuff going on- sounds like you are of an age where you should be enjoying school and not having to think about your poorly butt all the time. You poor thing. There are lots of people here with great advice. I've only just joined, but I have found it very calming to know that I have a community with the same problems as me. Even if you get the courage to share with your friends, they can't possibly imagine the misery until they have experienced it themselves and this is where the AF forum comes in. You really can share anything! I've been referred to a CRS now and I am waiting for an appointment and wouldn't have known what to ask for without this forum. Keep checking in. x
