Effectiveness of Miralax

Postby vxnova » 30 Oct 2012, 19:57

I have been reading through posts about Miralax and decided to give it a go. I have been using it for three days and am still having painful bm's. When should I expect it to really help my bum out? I used colace before and it didnt help much. I am also on a high fiber diet. Any advise is appreciated. Thank you.

Take MORE Miralax until it works enough for you to feel comfortable. Some people need more than the standard dose.

Right. I take mine twice daily in order to have more control of the correct amount to take (2 times daily to adjust as necessary). I measure mine out with various measuring spoons.

I guess i will take as much as my body can handle and let you know what happens. I am 6'1 215lbs male so maybe my body just needs more of the good stuff to work.

Would milk of magnesia also be a possible alternative to miralax to accomplish the same? I'm also desperately trying to reduce my BM pain 6 days post fistulotomy surgery.

My Mayo GI doc told me that MOM could be an alternative to Miralax for me. But I think regulating Miralax might be easier than MOM.

I've had great experiences with Miralax. The only problem I have is that it's expensive. I'm using about 2 17g doses per day so it's around $60 a month. It's a smidge overboard but I'd rather have consistently comfortable BMs then that one bad one once a week.
