Moving from lactulose to movicol??

Postby owmybum » 18 Jan 2013, 08:00

I feel that after 2 years of taking lactulose... And having to up the dose again and again over the last few months.. I think it's time to change over to movicol.
Any advice on how to do this, with as little disruption to my bowels as poss would be greatly received!

Hi, I'm not sure but I would try a dose of miralax before you go to bed. You have to remember that it can take up to 3 days to work the first time you use it. As far as upping the dose of you lactulose I have to do that with miralax too. I've been taking it for over 4 years now and I like that it's so easy to make adjustments. I find you don't really get gassy with it and it has no taste. Hope this helps. Suzy

Thanks Suzy.... I suppose I will just start at the lowest dose and see from there. Do you think I should carry on with the lactulose whilst I am doing it or stop?

Richi.... Did you swap from lactulose to movicol?
Sorry to hear you are getting some blood... Did you have a difficult bm? Are you an af sufferer too, I know you have a fistula. I hope it eases up for you... Just keep going with what you are doing.

Woah.... That's a lot richi.!
Unfortunately it is often a case of two steps forward three steps back!
How do you cope at work? What pain killers do you take?
I think I will start on movicol tonight.. I am just a bit nervous it will make things too soft... I am in a mess myself since I had the proctogram and really don't want to aggrivate things further!

Yea I hope it just a little step back .pain wise I'm OK .I can feel it but nothing like the pains I've had before.I always go before I go to work .the wipes shower etc I started back to work last sat and was nervous and had a sticky messy bum.think it upset it all down there
Here's to great healing

Yes.. It can certainly make you paranoid about being at work and having to cope, and keeping it all clean. Nightmare!
