Heat Pads & Healing

Postby CrackinUp » 01 Feb 2013, 04:18

I've read several times in various posts now that heat pads slow recovery.
So far today mine is relieving me of spasms, which is great.
Now as I understand it your fissure won't heal properly if you're still having spasms. So if my heat pad is helping reduce these, surely that's helping to heal me in a roundabout way? Or will my spasms simply return the day I decide it's safe not to use the heat pad?
Sorry to have to ask but it's very confusing for a newbie such as myself.
If today continues like this I'll be doing a little dance by the end of it :)

I spoke with my surgeon's nurse about the heating pad. She didn't say not to use the heating pad (it is OK to use), but did recommend putting a damp cloth on it as wet heat is better. I'm sorry, I did not ask her if it inhibits healing!

I used on/off from 9am and came off it around 1pm. I have had a pain / spasm free day besides this mornings BM.
Wonder why she said not to use the heat pad? Makes me think water must help healing. I could always have a bath at 1pm if the pad going to work every day.

She didn't say not to use it. Sorry the double negative confused you. I'll correct the entry so as not to confuse anyone else. So it is OK to use the heating pad!
I am editing this entry to include my latest experience with the heating pad. It worked for a while and then stopped working. I think this is due to my skin tag. I was putt.ing too much pressure on it by sitting. I have surgery tomorrow, so I am NOT sitting or laying on my side. Laying on my belly has eased the pressure and pain enough to make it manageble. I am also taking Gas X to avoid the excruciating pain of passing gas! Image

Reason: not sitting- laying on belly instead- Gas X
