BM PROBLEM.STOOL SOFTENER NOT EFFECTIVE.???

Postby Rachael 1984 » 23 Feb 2013, 05:27

EEK. I have been on stool softener now for 2 months.Been having a great run on it,until this morning. Image Really eat well yesterday, Weetabix for breakfast, Granola Bar,Toastie on brown for lunch, crackers with Turkey, Ham Sandwich on brown, Mackerel and Rice for Eve meal.
Not strayed from my diet too much, i am wondering if too much Fibre has a part in this? Image
The BM was difficult, and almost strained, but then realised,NOOO, don't do it. BM was firm, not as soft as normal.Maybe i need to take 2. I am scared the softener is becoming in-affective.
Anyone else had this happen??

You're eating a lot of food by the sound of it!
I normally have soup as one of my meals, fish and vegetables for the other mostly. I also have a spoon of olive oil before the fish.
Don't think I'd recommend eating in between. Eating small quantity at very regular times seems to be working really well for me.
But don't listen to me as I'm getting lighter every day too! Yikes! Image

I did eat rather a lot. Think I may have been a bit too hasty! Want to put the weight back on and went in full force!
I will see what happens tomorrow. I want to come off this stool softener and try something more natural, but that could be fatal! Image

Olive oil works well... I've been experimenting with that and Lactulose. I always have this before a meal, along with loads of water :)
Maybe try Lactulose, as it's slightly different. Works absolutely amazing for me and tastes nice. Cost you Ј6 for a big bottle which will last 3+ weeks.

I would recommend movicol. Start by using one sachet a day for a few days then adjust by a little more or a little less.
I used to use lactulose, but I ended up having to use more and more as my body got used to it. Since switching to movicol I have has very consistently soft bms every time. I think it's the best thing I have done to help myself in the long run and I would urge you to give it ago!!
You can buy it from any chemist.

Hi OMB, I think the macrogol is the same as movicol. It seemed to be better this morning, think I may have overdone it with the Bread. I am having a bad day today, can't see any light at the end if the tunnel!

I totally cut out bread. I just found that it bulked up my stools too much. I now just make a big pan of lentil and veg soup on a Sunday and use it for lunches through out the week. I even bought a food flask and take it to work too. I add some ground flax seed to a bowl full and a good glut of olive oil.
I find I don't miss bread now after the few months I have stopped eating it.
There is light at the end of the tunnel... You have to keep reminding yourself that... Things will ease up.
Sorry.... But in another post I asked you if you use a stool softener...doh! My brain has gone to sleep today I think!!

Are listing everything you ate? I'm not seeing any fruits or vegetables. Image If I ate like that, I'd be really sick, really fast.
I do have a friend who also had a fissure. She discovered that she does not digest wheat well. If she has more than the slightest bit of wheat, she gets constipated. For her, getting off wheat was the key to healing. I'm just mentioning that because you are relying on wheat for your fiber. If you never go a few days without it, you'll never know if you'd feel better without. Personally, I do fine with wheat, but everyone is different.

Hey coconut, I usually have 2 pieces of fruit a day, plus some veg at night. I didn't that day. I think I might cut the wheat to see if it makes a difference. Just gotta think of other stuff I can eat.
I have been referred to a dietician, as I have IBS. I am struggling since having these Fissures. Image

Vegetables are your friend Rachael, and olive oil is too. If you don't like it on your food do what I do and have a spoon prior to eating anything.
And for meat TRUST me fish all the way. I've had chicken a few times and I have to be careful with it - too much and I get bulky. No more naughty Mr CrackinUp having coffee and wine... oh no... lesson learned. :)
