Postby richibeno » 23 Apr 2013, 08:31

Hi guys
IV had a fissure then abscess and fistula'had a fistulotomy to lay open fistula tract
At the moment its almost healed 'last op was Dec last year'' crs said its like a tiny fissure again at the mo
I still get some soreness and a tweek now and then last saw my crs 3 weeks ago said it looked good a little tiny bit to heal or I may have caught the wound and opened it a little he said he is not concerned'
Question is I am going on holiday end of may and I would love to get in the pool etc
Would this be OK 'dont want to agrivate it any are there any creams I could use for a barrier ect
Thanks

Cant imagine it would be a problem. I went swimming with an acute fissure without worsening. You could use vaseline as a barrier if you feel like it, but I really cant see why it should be nessesary :D

Hi Rich,
I'm sure you will be absolutely fine swimming! If anything I can imagine it will take your mind off all those anal issues whilst in the water (my baths do!!) and will actually be quite relaxing. I'm so lazy, it's something I keep making excuses not to do but I know how much I love it! You definitely can't swim with an open wound down there but you've gone so far and done so well in your recovery now, that you should be OK. - You can always just check with your GP to put your mind at rest??? :)

Rich,
I so know how you feel.....sigh!
I think sometimes we are just so impatient to get back to the way we were and it's so hard to mentally accept that it's not going to happen that quickly....
Is the soreness and twinge from your fissure or fistula surgery? If the latter, don't worry, it'll sort itself out after a few more weeks - Your recovery sounds great on that side of things. If the fissure, it could be longer for sure....I still get a twinge from the fissure on the odd occasion but I just remind myself just how bad it was at the height of all the pain and that this is nothing in comparison.
You take care :)

I think you will be fine Rich. Maybe do what JHH said and just protect with some Vaseline. I have been on holiday in and out of pools and it was absolutely no problem.
You may find that all the relaxation and water does you some good.

I vote for both JHH n EVER THE OPTIMIST about swimming. can't say u any thing about twinge. gud to hear that u r healing well n coming back to normal life. how old ur fissure was before it turn into an anal abcess? n is this a must for an anal abscess to make a fistula.? n what r the characteristic or identifying symptoms of fistula?
I have fissure that retear every day because of spasm n i m planing LIS in 5 weeks. I asked u these q just to make sure that there won't be any problem delaying my LIS.

Hey rav
Got my fissure last July due to some strong antibiotics'and straining due to poor diet it did not improve had botox and polyop removal in Sept this must have blocked up a glan and I was in a lot of pain turned out to have been an abscess which them led to a fistula with some internal sphincter interaction had abscess op and Seton drain in Oct which settled OK had fistula layed open in Dec.
