Miralax & Magnesium Questions

Postby Deleted User 2854 » 31 Jul 2013, 13:39

I have been taking Miralax for the last week & it has helped tremendously with my BM's. I can actually see the light at the end of tunnel (with healing).
While at the health food store, I picked up some Magnesium http://www.megafood.com/blood-builder-minerals/magnesium
My questions are:
1. Should I continue taking the Miralax while starting the Magnesium as well ? Or should I discontinue the Miralax ?
2. When do I take the Magnesium, daytime or nightime ?
3. The dosage is 1 pill, which looks like 1000mg. Should I take the whole pill or cut it in half ? From what I have read, the average dosage for adult females is 280-300 mg.
4. What dosage do YOU take ?
5. What advice you would like to share about taking Magnesium ?
Thanks in advance :)

hay Sweat pea..just love that name..:D
That's a lot of magnesium, maybe split the pill in half.maybe once or twice a week at night. or speak to your specialist about the amount(Mg's) for you.

I take Magnesium Oxide,420 mg, twice a week at night, can be hard on the kidney's, so drink lot's of water with it. It not only keep's me regular but it's known for it's calming ability.
Plus I just started up again with my Restoralax (Canadian version of Movical and Mira lax). Since I've started up again, gonna take it with my breakfast, maybe twice a week.
Start gradually ,until you find the perfect fit..:)
Please don't give up, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, my dear BOB, we are here for ya.Image
WE are going to kick this...Flammiferous, flapping, flared, frustrating, fricken, fissure..phew that was a long one.

Image Thanks bobasTic3 for your well wishes, I hope you start to heal soon yourself !
Please go-away!... thanks for your imput as well. I think I read the label wrong. Could you click on the link in the original post and let me know what you think regarding the supplement facts.
It looks like it is only 50 mg. I must have misread the label...Image Let me know what your thoughts are, I would really appreciate it alot.
**UPDATED**...I actually called the MegaFoods and spoke with them. The magnesium supplement that I purchased is 50 mg. I was just a ding-dong and misread it.
Thanks again my fellow fighters !!

OK sweetpea, I looked up the site and called the company, phew..it is really 50 mg of elemental/absorbable magnesium.
That's better, but now on the other hand, you can take morning and night, no need to split it up. Since the site didn't offer a nutritionist or specialist they can only suggest taking it, according to direction's, one tab a day, so I would still ask your doctor, according if it's OK..I hope that help's :D
So funny Sweet pea..me ding dong too..because I didn't read further into your post, and called them too..he he.

Hmm, I take 1,5 pill (750mg) magnesium oxide daily. Besides lactulose and psyllium husk. Guess thats a bit on the high side?

Hay if it work's for you, you can regulate it , check with your doc, what ever it takes...My magnesium oxide is 420mg most of the time twice a week at night and now Restoralax about twice a week at breakfast, my other fibre is ground flax.
Drink lot's of water with your magnesium, and adjust it if stool's are to thin/loose.
I was suppose to pick-up the magnesuim in a liquid form, easy for IBS, but still haven't gotten around to it.

According to Dr. Andrew Weil:
Because all forms of magnesium can act as laxatives, I suggest taking it with some calcium to balance its effects. The forms I prefer are magnesium citrate, chelate, or glycinate. Avoid magnesium oxide, which can be irritating to the digestive tract."
