Hi all, thought I'd post another update. Had my appointment with the specialist consultant at the hospital. I don't want to be negative but he told me (without even examining me) that what I have is muscular and that I should just keep taking the Amitryptiline and rectogesic and that eventually it will get better. I just feel so frustrated. I don't mind taking the pills for a bit longer, but I'm not convinced I'm getting better. It's as though if you don't have a fissure or hemmhoroid they think there's nothing wrong with you. There must be a way to cure me of this but I don't think the NHS (I'm from the UK) have the expertise in this area. I've had this for nearly two years now, and I think unless you've had this yourself you're just not going to get it, no matter how qualified you are :( Oh well, just got to carry on carrying on, and try not to stress over this. Sorry to moan :(

Moondog,

You are not alone.... I am also experiencing pain/ discomfort despite being healed and I'm at my wits end! I have been referred to a pelvic floor therapist but only have relief temporarily. Have there been any more updates on your end since January?
2/14 Fissure developed
3/14 Diagnosed w/ fissure given Nifedipine
4/14 Referred to Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy=Pelvic Floor Dysfunction
5/14 Fissure declared "healed"/chronic anal pain persists
9/5/14 Botox to pelvic floor
9/22 biofeedback

Albuterol or salbutamol can be prescribed for levator ani syndrome and proctalgia fugax, both forms of anal pain. You could look into it, and ask your doc for it. They are inhalents, normally prescribed for asthma, for opening the airways.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!
