Student, so I don't understand why the CRS gave you antibiotics, suppositories and mineral oil. I have not heard of that as first line for a fissure. If the nitro is helping stop the spasm then that will help the fissure heal. I don't disagree about western medicine, maybe a acupuncturist can help, it's worth a try. Unfortunately there are only limited options for us. Where do you live? Has your pain level gotten any better over time?

maybe my crs is more out of the loop. even western doctors agree with the clinical trials that show acupuncture is effective for managing pain. in a perfect world, that liquid bandage stuff would do the trick! my pain has changed over time. at first it was like pushing out broken glass, with sharp pains lingering for varying amounts of time. now it doesnt hurt until just after the stool has passed, then its an unbearably strong dull pain for a minute or two, followed by poking feeling for a few hours. baths, nitro, and ibuprofen pretty much manage the after pain, but its the initial bit thats wearing me down. over the past couple weeks even with all the complications i think there has been a very slight improvement.

I keep a diary on what eat when I go to the bathroom and pain level. My doctor thinks I'm crazy and I am to absorb in this illness. But we all know how dibilatating that this is. It's hard to remember all the changes I go through so having the diary helps me see clearly what's going in.

i have been thinking about using a stopwatch to time how long the extreme pain lasts after each BM. My diet is now pretty consistent, but when i go to the bathroom is not.

The forum is therapy for everyone. I get as much giving as I do receiving. But there is one thing you can do, get better and when you do check in from time to time to help others. That's what this community is all about.
