What to do now?

Postby Now66 » 17 Jul 2014, 18:51

I finally had a hip replacement Tuesday afternoon and should be discharged from the hospital tomorrow, Friday. I had my last BM on Monday morning.

The hospital has been giving me Colase a "stool softener." Also a dose of Miralax when I insist but no ground flax seed, awwwwh!

I suspect the mandatory spinal block and Norcol pain killers have shut down any need for a BM and I fear another AF if I get all moving again. Any ideas on how to safely get started again?

This could get ugly!

Break out the big guns - go to a stimulant laxative.

Maybe add in some liquid paraffin..... I've heard it really lubricates the stool.
Good luck ... I really hope you don't re fissure.... It sounds like you have enough pain to be dealing with right now.

I wish you a speedy recovery!

Whooo hooo. No problem today. If anything, a bit too loose. Not a runny BM but a bit too pasty. However, considering the alternative, I must assume that the hospital knew what they were doing.

I had enough fears leaving the hosptical with these hip restrictions and warnings without worrying about another AF.

I will adjust my regular Miralax, Metamucil, water, and ground flax seed until i'm of the right consistency again.

Am staying a few weeks with the granddaughter, husband, and 15-month old boy. Glad I had a place to go till I can live alone and drive again.

Grandson-in-law has been changing my hip wound dressing - a large affair. All my body hair was clipped and the dressing is held in place with a low grab tape. None-the-less, I stripped to my ankles while he grabbed the top of the dressing and yanked it down. Whoa! I clinched up my butt cheeks and just sh*t all over the place! Good gawd, what a mess. Fortunately, grandson-in-law never flinched, mentioned something about the great grandson doing this, and left for clean up supplies.

Believe I'll forget the usual Miralax and Metamucil for a few days.
