Chills after painful BM

Postby woundedspirit » 11 Sep 2014, 09:11

Does anyone else experience chills after having a painful BM? I get so chilled sometimes I have to lay on the couch with a blanket for sometimes up to an hour before I feel warm. Just wondering if anyone else has this.

I sometimes feel shaky after. Like a bag of nerves. Maybe your body goes into a bit of shock from the pain and anxiety caused by such a painful defecation?
It's truley a horrible horrible affliction to endure W's

Hi,
Unfortunately because I am prone to suffering anxiety generally and at my worst, I was actually the opposite - I can still become shaky as OMB states through pure nerves about defecation but I would also become very hot and sweaty in the process! I completely agree this is an anxiety related issue and the relief once it was over was overwhelming! I'd feel exhausted and just want to flop!!....I still get this to a minor extent at times today, even though my fissure is healed - it's the mental reminder of it all that I am still, to this day, having to work through.

I also get feverish, and quite often. Cheeks go red and I get a low grade fever. Worrying when it happens. If I have stomach pain it can be even worse. No fun all this.

OMB - it is quite possible it is some sort of mild shock reaction causing the blood vessels to contract and the chills warming the core body temp.
Ever- there is so much anxiety (my anxiety starts when I go to bed knowing what I have to face in the morning) and trauma associated with BM's that it is likely there is a good bit of post traumatic stress syndrome after healing. I don't know if I will ever get over all of this even when I heal. It has taken such a big chunk of my life and it won't be over in the foreseeable future if ever and I will always be haunted by it.
Sav- now that you mention it, and now that I think of it, it could very well be fever induced chills. I guess the actual physiology doesn't really matter a whole bunch but it is good to know how others are experiencing things. Thanks guys.

When my pain was at its worst I would put the radio on in bathroom and hum along to 90's songs to try to help lessen the anxiety. Had all the hot flushes followed by feeling chilled. Definite reaction to the stress and pain. So glad I don't get that now.
Had similar reaction when I had surgery under local anaesthetic. They put a heat blower over me to help during surgery.

Yes and now I remember getting the chills after giving birth and being wrapped in heated blankets.
