Internal sphincterotomy

Postby Thieftaker » 13 Sep 2014, 12:56

Hi, I posted my first post a few days ago when my pain was beyond belief. I have today seem a specialist private who offered me Botox and Internal sphincterotomy. His an old school surgeon who recommended the latter. I am booked in for Tuesday as I need to get this sorted as it's effecting my work.

Any advice or experience in this would be great..... How much pain after the op ???

Hi Thieftaker,

With LIS surgery you have a good chance of the pain being less after surgery than the fissure pain, but you are going to have some discomfort from the incision, and muscle cut that will last 3 or 4 days. If all goes well, you should be able to return to work in a week. You need to expect 6 to 8 weeks for the fissure and incision to heal and about 3 to 4 months for the skin to get 70% of its strength. After the surgery you should notice that getting the stool to exit is easier and this is going to help the fissure heal.

Follow your doctors instructions as your after care is very important. You also need to continue to keep the stools soft after surgery.

agree with Roids, after care is the most important. Don't push it, take it as easy as possible. You are making an incision to heal a cut, even if you feel good, stick with a good diet and give yourself extra time to heal. Good luck

I had an LIS in April and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Although it hurt, it was tolerable with medication, baths, and drinking a lot of water. Make sure you have what you need at home for the first few days. I had stool softener as well as snacks that were bland and full of fiber. I ate a lot of salad, dried fruits, etc. wish you the best!
