Cannabis use and AF

Postby xxxxdmanxxxx » 05 Mar 2015, 17:32

Good day to everyone,

I have lived with an anal fissure for about 5 years now. Mine is weird in that in mostly only flares up for me after I smoke marijuana.  I use cannabis daily. I do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. I was wondering how smoking could make my AF flare up and if any one has experienced similar issues when smoking marijuana or cigarettes. I've been reading about spasms of the sphincter on this forum and was wondering if my smoking could be causing my muscles down there to spasm. That is the only thing that I could correlate to my pain right after smoking. I have done everything with my diet and I try my best to make sure my BM are as easy as possible. I haven't found anything anywhere about smoking and AF flare ups. PLEASE!!! if anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it. I'm almost ready to seriously look into the most non-invasive surgery option.

I have had this issue going on 5 ys and its killing me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post
Dee

Welcome to the forum!

This is very interesting as I was thinking of medicating with cannabis. I have not heard of that happening. Anyone else?

Don't think so. Ensure you are hydrated and use stool softeners whenever needed.

Hi Dee,

Welcome to the Forum. Sorry you are in such pain and we are here to help where we can.

If your pain and irritation happens after you have used cannabis, perhaps you have an allergy to this which has gone undetected. If you live somewhere where this is legal, perhaps you could try baking it, or something, into a cookie. I don't smoke anything so cannot advise you about anything more. Do suggest seeing a colon and rectal surgeon (CRS) and explaining the situation.

I edited your post so there is just the one post on cannabis use.

Dee, I am so sorry to hear the pain is that bad. I think it could be possible that the cannibis causes spasms for you. It is supposed to relive them but sometimes people react the opposite way to things that most others do. I assume you need to smoke it for other reasons? Perhaps you could see your doctor about getting a prescription muscle relaxant ointment like nifedipine, nitro, or diltiazem?

Thanks for the info. I am currently using a lido nifedipine compound. It helps sometimes but only about 20% of the time. I use it because it helps me get an appetite.

Maybe you could try botox for the fissure?
