Is Docusate prescription?

Postby Deleted User 4096 » 05 Apr 2015, 10:39

I was given a prescription for Docusate 100mg capsules - Docqlace.

I believe this is generic Colace.

Im just curious why this requires a prescription when you can buy Docusate 100mg off the shelf?

Is there some other difference?

It's over the counter. I take it everyday and I just buy it at the pharmacy.

I was recently given a "prescription" for Vitamin B12 - also available over the counter. I was confused at first but I think my doc just wanted to make sure I got the right thing. Maybe it's the same for you.

I bought it today over the counter, I asked the woman at the pharmacy (not the actual pharmacist) and she said it was the same thing, but didn't give me a reason why it's offered both ways.

It just seems odd to me, I thought medication was either prescription or OTC. I always figured prescriptions were stronger and more effective.
