I was going to suggest a probiotic and cutting back on the magnesium. Hope you are feeling better :)

chachacha and scientist....thanks for the feedback and insight. I think i will lessen my magnesium to 1 dose per day -- 150mg and see how that goes. I also wonder if i might be eating too much insoluble fibre and potentially too much probiotic food. Have you any idea whether eating too much probiotic stuff (kombucha, kefir, sauerkraut etc) could cause loose and watery stool...

Scientist....cant tell you how pleased i am to hear that your bad experience is fading...gives me hope. And chachacha...the fact that a simple change in your diet helped you is also amazing...also an inspiration.

Thanks a ton.

Just wanted to let my bum buddies know that cutting back on the magnesium seems to be the key for me...now i am only taking 150mg/day and things seem good so far....in fact, my stool is more "formed" than it has been in ages and so far so good.

Also -- yesterday was a bit of a celebration day for the family which of course had to involve eating lots of food...it was the first time i indulged in FRENCH FRIES with Gravy and Cheese (called Poutine in Canada...I had a vegetarian version, it is basically food of the gods for anyone who has not tried it :) As I was eating it in my mind i had a full conversation that went something like this..."Oh boy, you are in trouble tomorrow when you go to the bathroom....but its worth it, gotta live it up once in a while....oh boy...repeat". Anyways, thrilled to say that all was OK today!!

Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers out there who are either dealing with their own fissures or supporting someone with a fissure....hope you all take the day or at least a few minutes of the day today to do something that makes you feel happy.

Best,

Hi Canada, thanks for the update. SO GLAD you are doing better. That is awesome.
Nifedipine/lidocaine, no help
Diltiazem, effective, but caused major rash
Nitroglycerine, effective.
Topical estrogen for final healing.
Gentle heat to bottom - pain relief, muscle relaxant
Kondremul mineral oil
Time - lots of time.
Status - Healed!

Just a bit of a quick update on my issue...I have cut out Magnesium totally and am now eating in a way I have not eaten in about 6 months...bread, some pizza even...honestly, i would have never believed it 4 months ago.

Anyways...i figured that cutting out magnesium and adding stuff like bread would get rid of my diarrhea altogether...it did for a couple days but i am not back to very soft stool followed after i eat breakfast by diarrhea and my newest fun experience is bloating and gas throughout the day....the rollercoaster continues. Thankfully i am not in the sort of pain i was in...but i am a bit concerned because I think my fissure was caused by loose stools rather than constipation and I dont want to end up with another one any time soon.

Anyone have any thoughts...i am experimenting with different foods, dont drink coffee....we shall see.

Best to all -

What about soluble fibre? In supplement form or diet (rice, bananas, etc). Sorry I can't be of more help. I always aim for loose BMs as it's all I can pass and think it causes the least damage for me.

When I was first experiencing diarrhea, my CRS suggested Metamucil, and while I was surprised to learn that it is both a treatment for constipation and diarrhea, I did give it a try. It was very helpful at first, but I had to keep upping the dosage until I could do so no more, and after that, I was back to square one on the diarrhea front. It may work for you though, so might be something else that you could try.

Good luck.

If you added bread and now have bloating and gas, maybe cut the bread out again and see if the bloating persists. Potatoes, sweet potatoes and brown rice may be better for now.

Everyone is different

I plan on getting a complete food allergy test

Most people I know eat whatever they want and have no butt issues, yet, many have high blood pressure and borderline diabetes
